I believe altruistic hospitality is something that is essential for building a sense of trust between a human being and their world. After trying it the first time in 2017, I'm convinced a life well-lived includes travel where you make new friends and find solidarity with each new community on the way.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I got to be in Malaysia during the Hari Raya celebrations at the end of Ramadan. My host family let me observe the celebration where the extended family gathers together, and starting with the youngest in the family they honor elder members one by one. It ended with a little baby sitting in grandmas lap and me trying to not ugly cry. It was beautiful.
