ABOUT ME

My name is Michelle. I'm 24 and graduated from College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine where I studied marine mammal biology. I'm passionate about the ocean and all the critters that live in it. I'm currently a graduate student at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario.

PHILOSOPHY

Ever since I was little, I've loved the ocean. I want to devote my life to learning as much about it as I can and teaching others about the importance of conservation and how to make sustainable choices that will make this planet a better place for everyone to live.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've never couch surfed before but I think it's a great way to meet new people, learn interesting things from the people you stay with/host, and travel sustainably.

Interests

I love animals (especially cats and manatees) and the ocean. I've traveled all over the world to do research and am particularly interested in how marine mammals use sound to communicate. One day I hope to go to Antarctica.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: I love comedies and documentaries. A few of my favorites are: The Life Aquatic (or any of Wes Anderson's films for that matter), Supersize Me, Pay it Forward, The Corporation, and Silence of the Lambs

Books: I've read too many to list here, but a few of my favorites are the MADDADDAM trilogy, Log from the Sea of Cortez, The Starthrower, Siddhartha, and Things Fall Apart.

Music: I'll listen to anything at least once. Right now I can't get enough of Florence + The Machine, Fitz and the Tantrums, and Moon Hooch.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've swam with California sea lions and seen orcas, pilot whales, sperm whales, and fin whales in the Gulf of California.
