About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I want amazing stories to tell when I'm 80 and sittin' on my porch swing sippin' whiskey.

ABOUT ME

Some things I know for sure:

I feel most free, at peace, and comfortable in a moving vehicle.

I love dancing, whiskey, and dive bars.

I believe in the use of the serial comma and semicolons.

Laughing is the best thing ever.

When it comes to work, I am motivated by altruism, not money.

PHILOSOPHY

I've got a few, but the theme's generally the same, methinks:

"We're all on our way out. Act accordingly." ~ Frank Costello, 'The Departed'

"I have always lived violently, drunk hugely, eaten too much or not at all, slept around the clock or missed two nights of sleeping, worked too hard and too long in glory, or slobbed for a time in utter laziness. I ha€™ve lifted, pulled, chopped, climbed, made love with joy and taken my hangovers as a consequence, not as a punishment."€ ~ John Steinbeck, 'Travels with Charley: in Search of America'

All about actin' a fool: "If you want to improve, be content to be thought foolish and stupid." ~ Epictetus

"It were better to glimpse at the sky and perish, than to live without ever beholding day." ~ H.P. Lovecraft, 'The Outsider' (from 'The Best of Lovecraft: Bloodcurdling Tales of Horror and the Macabre')

"I miss the earth so much." ~ Elton John, 'Rocket Man'

"Please don't confront me with my failures. I had not forgotten them." ~ Nico, 'These Days'

"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety" ~ Benjamin Franklin, 'Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759'

"...the most singular difference between happiness and joy is that happiness is a solid and joy a liquid." ~ J.D. Salinger, 'de Dumier-Smith's Blue Period' (from 'Nine Stories')

"I was a baby once. Ya know what, though? I walked it off." ~ Stephen Colbert

"Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear." ~ Mark Twain

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Most recently, I came off a nine-city, 17-day, CouchSurfing-filled road-trip in April of 2011 and have since used it on smaller trips and/or to write about music/conduct interviews with some of my favorite musicians.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have lots of experience couch surfing through he U.S. via Couchsurfing.org, word of mouth, friends, and friends of friends.

Interests

I covered some of these in the "All About You" section, but some other things I currently enjoy include reading, food, gluten-free living (I have Celiac disease), teaching myself how to quilt and can, lazin' around, snoozin' in the grass, porch swings, skinny dipping, hot tubs (oddly, not so into swimming pools), bike riding, crafts/DIY projects (ranging from needlepoint to furniture painting and refinishing), interior design (as a hobby/appreciation), geeking out over TV and movies, meeting new people, fashion/personal style cultivation, singing (badly), and last but not least, chillin' with my cat.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Oh, man. There's been a few, having been to and lived a lot of places in the U.S. and seen a lot of live music. I'd rather talk about them over a drink or something than write about them, though.

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn everything! In fact, I'm in college right now. I intend to use it to continue promoting musicians whose music I love, even if I can only do it around my day job. I do my best doing it right now at the following music sites:
