About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Cycling and selling coffee.

ABOUT ME

Hello all of you! I'm Michiel, or Michael in English/German, and I'm 28 years old. I studied International Humanitarian Action at the University College in Dublin.

I'm an open minded person, have a sense of humour and I'm curious about new things (very very studious!). Finally, friends always tell me I'm enthusiast and positive.

At the moment I'm cycling around Italy. I hope to be cycling for a while!

PHILOSOPHY

If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can't buy.
You will always succeed in trying.
Be the change that you want to see in the world.
Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it is about learning to dance in the rain (yeah this one is very cheesy!! But I recently discovered its value :D)
Favourite party quote: Alcohol demolishes more than you can destroy!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Because I love to meet new people, learn about new cultures and getting to know more about the world, I always try to be available for visitors. Besides, I'd like to show visitors some of the city I live in. That's why I decided to offer my "couch". Since then, I have hosted more than I surfed. But, first of all, I want to aid in the CouchSurfing project because it's wonderful to help travellers out. I've seen so little of the world yet, so for me CouchSurfing is a way to fill in the blanks. When I got the time and money, I'd love to go surfin' myself! I prefer experiencing a place from a locals perspective to get an impression of the everyday culture of someone who lives there, rather than the typical tourist places. Couch Surfing is perfect for that!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Hosting and surfing as often as time, money, work and friends allow me to. Only had good times so far!

Music, Movies, and Books

My lastfm profile: http://www.last.fm/user/MichielMusic
When it comes down to music (and books), I'm interested in pretty much everything I can get my hands on, so please share your music.
I'm not much of an expert in movies, but I appreciate 'non-Hollywood' stuff.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Skinnydippin' during the supermoon, exploring empty buildings, watching Brussels at night, cycling over unfinished bridges, Plitvice lakes in Croatia, Berlin, crowdsurfing, Rome, performing in a Doe Maar coverband, hitch-hiking, releasing an album.
Climbing Mount Merapi (an active volcano) was awesome.
Cycling and camping for a week was great too! After this 'experiment' I became hooked; hence my current trip.

Teach, Learn, Share

Interesting things I'm willing to share are
- (Bass)Guitar skills! I'm no Jimi Hendrix but I enjoy playing with others and learning from them. I've got some guitars and a bass over here so we could play some together.
- The art of riding a bicycle. Groningen style bro!
- Installing a hammock.
- Funny stupid drinking games!
- Cooking and recipes (yes, also Dutch stuff! :) )
- Coffee brewing
