ABOUT ME
Hello! My name is Mic and my boyfriend's name is Victor, which means we're gay, just to let you know. I (Mic) am from the United States and Victor is from Puerto Rico. We both speak English and Spanish. We're living in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia)and are going to do an awesome trip through China, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and the Phillipines and wanted to stay with couchsurfers to get to know the countries we're visiting.
Victor studies architecture in Chicago (United States, and I make bracelets out of silver plated antique forks, along with necklaces, keychains, earrings, and napkin rings. I really love making fork jewelry, because besides being made from recycled materials, they're also real silver antiques that have original stories.
PHILOSOPHY
A cool couchsurfing host gave me really interesting advice once, and it has become my personal philosophy: Live for today, but also plan to live for 100 years.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've couchsurfed in Italy, Australia, New Zealand and the United States about 10 times, although my profile doesn't reflect it because I surfed with my friends and used their profiles. All of my experiences have been absolutely amazing and people are always so nice!
Interests
I am an extremely hard worker and enjoy having a million things going on at once- right now, I'm really focusing on making my fork bracelets an international success. Besides that, I have really strange interests I love Victorian style furniture, and have begun to collect different pieces. I also love Victorian silver plate serving pieces, candlestick holders, and Maxfield Parrish prints. I'm also trying to teach myself galego, mirandes, and aragones, three Iberian languages that are almost extinct but I find interesting because of their connections with Latin, Portuguese and Spanish.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love books written in Spanish- everything is always so dramatic and so imaginative! I especially love magical realism. On my list of favorites are Cien anos de soledad, Los soles truncos (which I guess is actually a play), El espejo enterrado, La ultima noche que pase contigo, Las masas son crasas, Niebla, anything by Garcia Lorca, and really anything in the realm of 17th century Spanish poetry- it's so cheesy yet so good!
I love reggae and reggaeton, which I know, is a funny mix. Please understand, I know reggaeton lyrics are disgusting, but I love the beat of reggaeton and driving around to it makes you feel like a badass drug dealer. My obsession with reggaeton also probably comes from the fact that that's all I heard for the three years I lived in Puerto Rico.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Oh man! Well I really love Lake Bled in Slovenia. Hiram and I worked on an apple farm in Bled in September 2011 and we went to Lake Bled all the time. The lake itself is completely turquoise (I would say even more turquoise than the Caribbean) and it's surrounded by the Julian Alps, and a castle from the year 1011 that overlooks the lake from a huge cliff.
The Bone Church in Kutna Hora, Czech Republic is pretty cool, too. Decorated with over 40,000 human skeletons, it's actually really artistic!
I also really like the Bioluminiscent Bay on Vieques, an island off the coast of Puerto Rico. For whatever reason, microorganisms in the water glow when you touch them, and you can go swimming in the water (at night, of course) and illuminate the bay with your arm and leg strokes. Puerto Rico has three of the four Bioluminiscent Bays in the world!
I love also Naples, Italy (which is nothing like what you're heard about) and Ouro Preto, Brazil.
Teach, Learn, Share
I would love to teach people that although I'm from the United States and many, many aspects about my country suck, not all people from the United States are idiots. I'd also love to talk to people about South America, Puerto Rico, art, literature, antiques, and artisan jewelry. I have extensive knowledge about North American antiques, but very little knowledge about foreign antiques and would love to learn about them. Also, Puerto Rico is a place I hold very dear and I would love to talk to people abut it! Puerto Rico has been a United States colony for over 100 years, and has some of the most horrific crime, poverty and unemployment rates in the whole world- I would love to talk to people about the bad effects of extended imperialism.
