ABOUT ME

Hi, my name is Nikole... I have a heart for social justice issues and have spent quite a number of years committed to working in the developing world before I finally submitting to a formal educational setting. I have just spent the last 7 years studying Marine Biology and International Development in Halifax/Winnipeg, Canada. I am currently working in Environmental Education for Parks, in Waterton Lakes National Park, Ab. But am dreaming of living on the coast again soon!

I love great adventures, mellow mornings, inspiring conversation... and if you cannot tell by my photo's.... I love a good cup of coffee. Coffee is a communal thing for me, I enjoy conversation around a cup, it is my favorite things after a good hike, and it is ofcourse my personal companion during long nights of studying.

Boats, water, and diving... my places of peace. Some fear the water... I dream of it. It has some sort of mystical hold on me.

PHILOSOPHY

People first. For me this is a conscious priority. I spent a large portion of my life "doing" rather than "being". In the realm of social justice issues... you can certainly run hard to feed hungry mouths... but in that running I missed some incredible moments. In retrospect, I wish I had been open to feeding the soul, by loving people with the most vulnerable part of my being.... not my hands... but my heart.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have lived among a community of 500 individuals from 52 different countries. This experience broke down any apprehensions that I may have had about "other" cultures. Now I find the monotonous North American life-style to be dissatisfying. By hosting couch surfers I am reminded of the diversity that exists, it is a great pleasure to know people.

Interessi

You name it I am in, there are few things that I am not interested in exploring. As mentioned I love water... so anything on a boat... actually, just being on a boat makes me smile from ear to ear.

I love inspiring people, that feeling that you have just been forever changed by a single conversation.

The Canadian Rockies were the first mystifying moment. I think a caravan of thousands of camels being boarded onto a ship in the Sudan. And the most awestruck experiences of my life have been those when I have seen people transform, overcoming major challenges, and come into themselves... inspiring.
