About Me

Hiya!

My name is Seth Stivala and I'm on the adventure of a lifetime! But before I tell you about it, let me take you back so you can get to know me a little better.

This video on my Youtube channel gives a complete history about me and what lead up to my journey.

Anyways, now that you know me a little better, let me explain my journey a bit more. In 2016, I began a journey that will take me through all 50 states. That year I ended up backpacking around 3000 miles before winter set in and I headed home to start writing the books about the adventure so far.

However, my friend invited me to go with him to check out Machu Picchu in Peru. Naturally, I took him up on his offer and started 2017 right by checking off one of the seven wonders of the world.

When I returned from Peru, my fans thought I disappeared because they didn't hear from me for months after my adventure in South America. They began to doubt I was actually going to travel to all 50 states like I said I was. But this wasn't the case at all. The journey had evolved with another idea that formed while I was on the road in 2016.

During the months that no one had heard from me, I was working to save up for a van which I tricked out into a tiny house on wheels.

The Beardmobile (my van) gives me the ability to travel a lot longer, farther, and faster on my journey through all 50 states. It also allows me to carry more equipment and therefore, the ability to write and film more. This is key because I hope to write a bestseller one day and I love sharing people's stories with the world.

Here are a few things I do in every state I visit:

1. Volunteer to make the world a better place wherever I go.

2. Climb to the highest point.

3. Check off one item on my bucket list.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing for three reasons:

1. To meet new and interesting people - my favorite part about being on the road is getting to meet new people and hear their stories. Not to mention making new friends because you can never have too many! :D

2. Local knowledge - there is no better way to find out about an area than by asking the people who live there what there is to check out.

3. Showers, Parking, and WIFI - Despite having the Beardmobile, there are still amenities that I still covet. If you've been on road, then you know that the number one thing every adventurer wants is a hot shower. Alas, it is one of the few things my sweet ride doesn't have. As for parking, it's nice to have a place to park for a few days where I know it'll be safe and isn't at risk of getting towed, so I can have time to explore the area on foot for a bit. Finally, WIFI. I do a good bit of filmmaking on my adventure, but uploading videos with public WIFI is just all kinds of awful. If you let me steal your WIFI while I'm there, I'm pretty sure you're going to be in one of the videos I upload ;)

Interests

My main interest on this journey is learning new things. I love hearing people's stories about their lives and learning anything they have to teach.

There is so much I want to learn and experience! So if you have a suggestion, a story, or want to teach me something, then you'll have my full attention and an eager student! :)

Also I truly love the outdoors and am always looking to learn something new about it. So if you know about a native plant, a hidden swimming hole, or just want to teach me how to set up a primitive survival trap, that will make my day!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Paid off my student loans while still in my 20s. Also no, I'm not rich. Just worked like crazy and gave 80-90% of every paycheck to hammer them down for a good while.

Another is that I backpacked for 9 months on the road (around 3000 miles) and camped out in the woods 95% of the time. The other 5% is when complete strangers would invite me to stay with them after talking with them for a bit about my adventure. That time I spent on the road definitely restored my faith in humanity and now I write stories to help people restore theirs.

Teach, Learn, Share

In my travels, I've learned a lot of interesting facts and history.

History: The last true Inca Emperor Atahualpa was captured by less than 200 Spanish Conquistadors despite having thousands of Inca soldiers in his immediate vicinity. The Spanish set up an ambush and attacked with cannon and by horseback, both of which the Inca had never seen before and it scared the hell out of them. When the battle was over, thousands of Inca lay dead and the Emperor was at the mercy of the Spanish. This was the beginning of the end of the Incan Empire.

Random Fact: The potato is originally from Peru.
