About Me

I'm a desert rat born and raised in the Sonoran Desert which is located in Southern Arizona and Northern Mexico. I'm a man of all trades and a master at none. Previously I was a poker dealer at a Indian Gaming Casino, Bartender, Car dealer, and Upscale restaurant server, and cook I've done a little of everything when it comes to work.

I graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Economics. I am very interested in movies, movie soundtracks, all different genres of music. I enjoy reading about History, Economics Data , Statistics and Cooking. I am an experience cook and enjoy cooking regional mexican food from where my family is from.

I recently moved to Los Angeles and love my new city however I do miss Old Tucson from time to time.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I find that the opportunity of getting to know locals from the local area can be quite rewarding in terms of finding those diamonds in the rough. When couchsurfing I've always been able to find the food that locals love and connecting with the host and their friends and families is a priceless experience. Staying with a host is closer to getting an idea of what day to day life is like in the host country. It is in my opinion one of the most rewarding experiences while being abroad. Chilling around a pool and trying to overcome language barriers over coconuts and churrasco is better than ziplining and staying at a resort in any scenario. I still keep in touch with the folks who hosted me in Brazil, they are like family.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went to the state of Bahia in Brazil. I can say which day was the best but my whole experience in that part of the country was amazing. I hiked across Chapada Diamantina to Salvador. I traveled to isolated islands on ferries and got to drink cachaca eat churrasco with locals. I remember one night I met a family of young brazilians who shared a home. We spend all night getting on tamarind licor eating mandioca and rice, and listening to Duke Ellington, Coleman Hawkins and other famous jazz artists while watching a condomble ceremony from their balcony in a favela. These kids who were ten years younger than me knew more about american jazz than I did. It was an unforgettable experience.
