About Me

I am the husband of a wonderful woman who is way better to me than I deserve. I am the father of three exceptional young women who grew up way too fast. I am the brother of three sisters -- one having passed far too young. I am a committed handyman with a goal of self reliance in most things. I am a private pilot. I love the outdoors and strive to live a life free of fear, drama or drugs -- prescription or otherwise. I believe in fitness and work to maintain as much of my youth as nature permits. I have lived most of my life in the southern United States but have done enough globe trotting to appreciate what I have and have not. I try to remember that each new day is a gift to appreciate and ENJOY. And just for fun, I am a free-thinker until the government devises a scheme to tax my thoughts.

Motorcycling is the dominant recreation in my life these days. I have a super-sport bike that I thrash about in the North Georgia Mountains on the weekends if I'm not hiking the trails. I also have a sport touring bike that has taken me to every state in the lower 48 except OH, and DE.

Home improvement is next on the list as I dabble in real estate for fun and profit.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like most music if it has a melody line and non-profane lyrics. Classical, pop, rock, country, gospel, bluegrass -- love Alison Krauss, Motown R & B, and on and on. I can even enjoy some hip-hop constructions if it's well done and not trashy. Lately I've been listening to "country" music and have to admit it's kind of catchy. I really like Florida Georgia Line; it makes me want to roll my window down and cruise.

For TV, I enjoy English period dramas. Shows like Downton Abbey or anything by Jane Austin fascinate me. Netflix has been great for that. While a bit dark, Breaking Bad is the best thing TV has ever produced.

For books, it's a bit dry as I tend to mostly read non-fiction. My latest diversion is a history of the Crusades.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I suppose my 2012 24-day solo motorcycle trip from Atlanta-to-California-to-Oregon and back was "amazing" considering I only got one small rain shower for the complete journey; and that was on the last day of the trip.

Teach, Learn, Share

The only thing I like better than sharing stories of my adventures, is listening to others tell their tales. One cannot teach, if one is not willing to learn.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would be more than happy to share my "wisdom", stories, vocational knowledge (software engineer by trade), and even my handyman skills for minor home repairs -- if you have the tools.

Countries I’ve Visited
