Hello, my name is Mike!
I am 28 years old and I am from the United States.
I grew up in the state of Pennsylvania, but now I live right outside Washington DC. I went to college at Penn State University to study Aerospace Engineering, and I am now an engineer working at NASA since 2015!

International travel is still a very new thing for me. When I was growing up I only had the fortune to travel around the US to various states with my family. My first opportunity to travel abroad was in 2011 where I was able to travel to Beijing, China for one month as part of a short-term study abroad program in college!

The culture shock hit me so hard, and I knew after that trip that I needed to see more of this beautiful planet that we all call Home! It wasn't until 2016 that I was able to travel again where I tried backpacking solo in Japan for the first time.

I have been travel-addicted ever since that trip!!!

So far I have ventured to China (Beijing, and Xi'an), Japan 2x (Tokyo, Kyoto, Nagano, Himeji, Osaka, Hiroshima, Takayama, Ise, Ito), Hong Kong, and Taiwan (Taipei, Hualien, Kaohsiung, Chiayi). Each one of my adventures has helped me to shape my perspective on the world with a fresh set of eyes!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I strongly believe that the most fundamental experience while traveling are the people that you meet along the way! Being able to share your stories, experiences, and culture with others people is the one thing that sticks with you forever. I have made so many friends, and met all kinds of wonder people throughout my adventures, and they are the core reason I continue to look forward to my next journey.
