About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I have just retired and so I am making plans for the future to meet new people and experience new cultures here in the US and elsewhere.

ABOUT ME

Been singe for 4 years and in the process of starting my planned retirement travel. I have been focused on raising my family to the point that my grandkids are now all in their mid teens so it is time to shift the focus more on myself and get out to experience more of the world.

Fortunately I have no major health issues of any kind so there are no impediments to where I can go or what I can do.

PHILOSOPHY

I am stealing this from another couch surfer: I will make the rest of my life to be the best of my life!

I have lived my life for my family. Two great kids and 3 wonderful grandkids. We are a diverse eclectic group in my immediate family and my birth family so life is never boring.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I currently have a home that is way too big for me so I am going to be leasing it out and will be moving to a 2 bedroom apartment. The second bedroom is for my grandkids when they visit but as teenagers that is happening less and less, so I might as well make it available to travelers. I have a dog who loves people and never barks.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Nano, zip, none. I have slept on some terrible fold-out beds during my life so I am glad to be able to offer a queen sized bunk bed to my guest(s).

Interests

Reading, taking my dog for long hikes each day, spending time with friends and family, communicating via skype with overseas friends, camping, kayaking, and whatever else strikes my fancy at the moment.

Music, Movies, and Books

At my age I find most mainstream movies to be dull and infantile. CGI is a cool thing to see occasionally but I prefer movies constructed around human emotions and experiences. My favorite movie of all time is "Blade Runner". Musically I like Massive Attack, Eastern Sun, Bassnectar, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Being at the the birth of both of my children. Neither one occurred in a delivery room and in the case of my son the doctor was a no show.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am moving to Thailand in September, 2015. It is a wonderful country and people. I intend to use it as a base to travel over all of Asia. I may tutor math (see education) as an avocation but my real intention is to be a student of the Thai culture and Buddhism. As a former Civil Engineer I may engage in some building projects in villages. Much remains to be seen.

Countries I’ve Visited

Germany, Iceland, Taiwan, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

Japan, Turkey
