About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To meet and explore the lives of others in the world

ABOUT ME

I was working a job that I despised and was unhappy with myself each day. I knew that I needed a changed and decided to quit my job in May 2016 and start a one year gap year. That one year GAP year has since turned into 4 years of exploring various parts of the world. I spent time leading students outdoors in Alaska, Spain, France, and Tanzania. I worked as a Barista at a hippy-funky coffee shop in Utah. I spent time volunteering with students in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. And soon will be a ski patroller in Utah.

I want to learn about different cultures and people and experience the kindness our world has to offer.

PHILOSOPHY

To live each day to the fullest. I live for myself. I get satisfaction from helping others, so I stay busy and motivated.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have been signed up on here for a few years but have lived in many places that get very few visitors (I lived in towns with less than 20,000 people in rural Ohio). I did my first couchsurfing experience in Europe and loved it! The people are so nice and it's great to hangout with my host. Even if I haven't surfed on their couch, I've been able to connect with people all over the world, and it's been a highlight of my travels.

I hosted my first surfer (in my small town) in February 2016 and loved it. It was such a nice change of my usual weekend routine and appreciated their visit - even if it was for 1 night.

Interests

Long conversations with beer/coffee, hiking, walking aimlessly around cities, running, anything outdoors!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love watching movies!

I listen to any type of music, so please bring some for me to listen too! I have a particular interest in classic rock, folk, bluegrass, and alternative music.

I enjoy reading and am always open to new books and genres. I don't have a favorite type but read a little of everything. I want to read more of the "classics" over the next few years.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent 9 weeks traveling and camping around the United States, where I visited 25 states and 30 National Parks.

I led outdoor adventure trips for teenage students in the Pacific Northwest, Jackson Hole, Wyoming (near Yellowstone and Grand Teton) Alaska, Spain, France, and Tanzania. I've led backpacking, sea kayaking, rafting, ice climbing, and rock climbing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm willing to learn anything! Very interested in diverse cultures and anthropology.
