About Me

I'm Mike. I've been on CS, on and off since 2009. When I started here, 14 years ago, I was a party-boy daydreaming about girls and PBR (pabst blue ribbon, not professional bull riders)... now I'm a middle-aged bloke with aches and pains and a cat, daydreaming about DIY projects, pedestrianising streets and travelling the world with a bicycle or a van.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm a real treat, so I generously let my fellow couchsurfers bathe in my aura from time to time.

Seriously though, I surfed across the US for three months in 2009 and it was savage. Met all sorts of people and made a couple of really good friends. Since then I've mostly hosted occasionally to return the favour, but I've been away from CS for a good few years.

I'm going travelling around Europe next year when I get redundancy from my job, so I'm looking to host a few folks again in the meantime. Would be great to make a few connections (particularly in Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland and Hungary) so I've someone to meet for a beer when I'm bouncing around the continent next year!

Interests

Good food, good beer, good coffee, and activities involving these three.

I have a masters in transport, and I'm an advocate/activist trying to make Dublin a more pedestrian and bike friendly city (more buses and trains would be great too)... so the Netherlands is sort of a personal mecca.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was forced to hitch-hike from North Carolina to Atlanta, Georgia (I missed my bus), and a dude called Jonny picked me up and drove me all the way to the front door of the house in Atlanta - 30 miles past his own turn off. I've encountered some amazing generosity and hospitality in America but that just blew me away.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I live in a small, two-bedroom, 120 year old cottage in a central location in Dublin city with my cat Rain. So you'll have a room to yourself, in easy walking distance of most things.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States
