About Me

Hello! I was born in London, grew up nearby, lived most of my last life in Edinburgh and now I'm making a new one in Valencia, Spain.

I'm very lucky to have already visited some fantastic places in my life. I have spent a few weeks in Paris, run from Brussels to Amsterdam and holidayed in Morocco, Tunisia, USA, Northern Ireland, Lithuania, Malta, Gozo, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy and Luxembourg. I've been to Montréal in the depths of winter and felt my eyeballs freeze, and I've travelled to Rome and Mallorca in the summer and been burnt to a crisp. Over Christmas 2012 I was lucky enough to be invited to cruise around the Caribbean, taking in Miami, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, and in September 2018, I drove all the way across the United States, from Seattle to New York.

I've ridden a camel into the Sahara desert and watched the sun go down, gone sea bass fishing in the Mediterranean, danced salsa (very poorly) on the streets of Havana, played football at the Stade de France, got a selfie with the Statue of David and sat in Frank Sinatra's jacuzzi. I've sat in a cabana on the north beach of Orcas Island in the middle of the night, with the stars and the waves for company, and watched a meteorite tear through the sky, burning through the atmosphere and lighting up the clouds. And yet, there are still so many experiences left :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I spent a few wonderful years hosting some of the best people in the world in my flat in Edinburgh. I've truly made friends for life on CS! Now that I'm living in Valencia, I'd love to meet local English speakers and travellers who are passing through. The pandemic has been a problem for my entire time in the city, so I don't know many people yet!

I'm also very keen to meet CSers on my travels - I try to stay in hostels, hotels or apartments that I've rented rather than crashing on couches because it takes the pressure off everyone, but I like meeting locals who are happy to explore their city with me.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hosted lots of CSers in Edinburgh when I lived there, and now I'm happy to show people around Valencia when I can.

I've also met plenty of CSers abroad, particularly in Paris where I organised an event and made some genuine friends for life, people I still speak to regularly and see a few times a year. I love Couchsurfing - it's one of the best things I've ever participated in, even though I've never slept on anyone's couch!

Music, Movies, and Books

The Simpsons, BASEketball, Dodgeball, Team America, Talladega Nights, Anchorman, South Park, Futurama, Blackadder, American Dad, Flight of the Conchords, Rick & Morty. I like comedy; the eagle-eyed among you might be able to spot a trend.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Probably the most worthwhile thing I've done with my life so far is raising £7.5k for a children's charity after running from Brussels to Amsterdam with some of my best buds in 2011. The money we raised built a kitchen in a school in Malawi and paid for a year's supply of food for the kids. I'm immensely proud of that, and I really hope I can visit the school one day!

Also, commentating at the Homeless World Cup in Paris was an amazing and humbling experience. I was honoured to have been given the chance to commentate on the final, and met some incredible people both during and after the tournament. It's a truly worthwhile charitable and social initiative that showcases everything that's good about our beautiful game.

Teach, Learn, Share

These days, I make most of my money from being a voice actor, voiceover artist, narrator and writer. I've also worked in marketing, design, advertising and digital media for around fifteen years now and I'm just about getting the hang of it! I studied Journalism at university and specialised in TV and radio broadcasting - presenting or commentating would be my dream career. I also pick up practical skills very quickly and I'm always keen to learn new sports and games.

I can teach you how to fold a t-shirt in two seconds, fold a crisp packet into a tiny triangle that you can throw at your friends, and bounce a quarter into a pint glass with alarming accuracy.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I don't tend to stay with hosts when I travel; I prefer to get hotels or Airbnb apartments so I can operate to my own schedule. When I'm visiting beautiful places I tend to get up early and go to bed late, and I wouldn't want anyone to have to put up with me crashing around!

However, if I do end up at your place, you can guarantee that I'll be armed with alcohol and the party won't be far behind me. I can also knock together a batch of crêpes or a Thai green curry at a moment's notice.
