About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To travel as much as I can & host as often as I can. I want to learn from & be inspired by everybody I encounter.

ABOUT ME

I'm currently a student in Asheville, NC. I'm a musician (guitar, bass, piano, drums) & love to write & play music. I'm learning more about yoga & meditation. I love the outdoors (frisbee, hiking, walking downtown, laying in the grass, camping, etc.). I'm working on my posture & breathing. I'm truthfully very, very polite & adaptable. I'm a great communicator, I'm not awkward, I'm not boring, & I'm not abrasive. I think I'm lovely & I bet you are too!

PHILOSOPHY

I don't have all the answers, but I know being a really good person as consistently as possible brings me the most happiness. I try & help people often & if I was pressed to give you a 1-word answer on what I think is the most important thing in the world... I would say it's LOVE. We're all different & it's not uncommon for some of us to have different viewpoints on some aspects, or sometimes every aspect of our existence, but when we approach each other from a standpoint of compassion & with a desire to understand & accept each other, I find that all of us souls are usually able to find enough in common to love & appreciate each other.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I officially began participating in the CS project during the summer of 2011. I had been a tagalong in the past w/ friends who did the legwork to find couches through CS but hadn't taken the time to fully immerse myself in the culture. I'm so glad I put forth the effort because I truly love this project & feel very passionate about its serious awesomeness. I have 2 roommates, so I can't host EVERY night of the week, but I'm trying my best to accept as many surfers as reasonably possible. When I do host, I'm always very accommodating, being sure my guests know how to use the showers & have proper supplies, etc. I love meeting new people & being sure everybody's having a great time. I'm social & like to talk/learn from people, but also know when/how to give guests their space, even when in my home.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I created my profile last summer (2011) & stayed on a few CS members' couches. Every host was so lovely, interesting, & memorable. I think the CS project is really awesome & I love the idea of people not having to spend their hard-earned dollars (or dollars they don't have) on overpriced hotels or motels. Instead, we get to travel more & stay in the homes of people who tend to be really awesome, caring, loving people who we can usually learn from & grow with. & when we host, it fills our hearts with the satisfaction of knowing that we're providing a safe place where somebody can stay while they immerse themselves into the city where they're surfing. We can all learn from each other, whether it be while surfing or hosting. I can't express enough how special this project is to me. :) <3

Interests

I like to take pictures, ride my bicycle, listen to records, watch movies, longboard, draw pictures, hang out w/ good people, eat good food, have good conversations, camp under the stars, garden, cook (vegetarian), play frisbee, read books, write letters, volunteer (various), & other things. My latest interest is origami. I'm thinking surfers can start making origami with me & leave 1 in a designated area of our house so I can remember each surfer by their origami creation. :)

Music, Movies, and Books

music: Tortoise (so creative), Neil Young (Cowgirl In The Sand is possibly my favorite song ever), Pink Floyd (favorite band), Cat Power, Do Make Say Think, Bright Eyes (favorite songwriter), Jay-Z, Pixies, The Sea & Cake, My Morning Jacket, She & Him, Panda Bear, Brian Eno, Black Moth Super Rainbow (Pittsburgh, what!?), Air France, David Bazan, Wu-Tang Clan, Joanna Newsom, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Bob Dylan, Lykke Li, Beach House, Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, Santigold, Miles Davis, Feist, Kid Cudi, The Beatles, St. Vincent, M83, Of Montreal, A.A. Bondy, Dirty Projectors, Deerhoof, Girls, Deadmau5, Animal Collective, Jolie Holland, Theophilus London, Debussy, & a LOT more... (I don't really want to take a ton of time listing every band I listen to... I listen to almost every style & am really open-minded about music. I love sharing tunes w/ surfers/hosts!)

movies: Wes Anderson films (Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums, Darjeeling Limited, Moonrise Kingdom), Scorsese films (Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Casino, The Departed), Tarantino films (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill 1 & 2), Stand By Me, A Clockwork Orange, the Halloween series (I used to love all the original films, except the 3rd one of course, but now I honestly might prefer to watch the new Rob Zombie remakes of 1 & 2 instead of Carpenter's, but there will always be a special place in my heart for 4 & 5, & 6 was unique in a weird way also), Hannibal Lecter movies (The Silence of the Lambs was the only great film, though), Inception, The Godfather Parts I & II, The Wizard of Oz, The Dark Knight, The Big Lebowski, Jaws, the Bourne trilogy, Fight Club, the Terminator movies (except Rise of the Machines- it was entertaining but kinda terrible), Training Day, Die Hard trilogy, Donnie Darko (check the original music out from this film if you get a chance- it's awesome / I have the CD if you have a computer to import it into), Back to the Future trilogy, The Matrix trilogy, the Star Wars saga (super philosophical!), the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Robocop (there's a Robocop statue in Detroit that I'd love to see!), Natural Born Killers, Se7en, Fargo, City of God, American Psycho, The Shining, Saving Private Ryan, Braveheart, Lucky Number Slevin, Sin City, 300, Forrest Gump, Slacker (not Slackers), & again a LOT more...

books: lots of different books but some favored authors are: David Sedaris, Chuck Palahniuk, Bret Easton Ellis, & yet again, a LOT more

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Teach, Learn, Share

I can't read music, but will gladly share w/ you my musical knowledge & ability on the guitar, bass, drums, & piano. I also make my own hummus & almond milk. I know how to use my iPhone & Apple computer pretty well if you need any technical assistance w/ either. I know a few jokes (4 total) that I'd be willing to share.
