About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I'm on a very long-term travelling mission
ABOUT ME
I am passionate about travelling, and in 2011 I've started a new phase of my life what I call "long-term and very slow travelling", i.e. I've moved to another country to learn another language, understand its culture and their lifestyle. Furthermore, I use this opportunity to 'take a step back' and look at my homeland and its society from outside.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've been to a few CS meetings, and occasionally I host travellers.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Mostly very positive experience with Couchsurfing.
Interests
In short: travel, photography, languages, maps, National Geographic.
A bit longer and in no particular order: I am fond of dictionaries (I collect them, and you can bring your old/unnecessary dictionaries, whatever the languages, when you come to visit me) and also lexicography; also I am interested in history of law (some years ago I even studied law for a year at university level, just for the sake of being interested in it), and recently I've become quite interested in urban studies, history of cities, planning of streets and street design - and I plan to study and research this field as deep as possible. As to languages, I am generally interested in learning languages, currently I enjoy the privilege of learning Estonian while living among Estonians, but I also care deeply about my mother tongue, the Latvian language, and its future.

Music, Movies, and Books
I enjoy various kinds of music, from Depeche Mode and Queen to Underworld and DJ Tiesto; from ambient electronic to symphonic classical to nu-jazz to uplifting trance to choir music to general pop. I've been singing in choirs for many years, I'm a proud participant of many song festivals in Latvia, due to participate in the 2014 Estonian Song Festival.
As to movies, some of my favourite films are Groundhog Day, Into The Wild, Amelie, The Pursuit of Happyness, Mystic River and others.
I used to read a lot when I was younger, not so much in the recent years. One of the last books that I enjoyed reading was Letters to Olga by Vaclav Havel, that I found very inspiring.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Roadtrips.
In one of such amazing roadtrips we went to Tampere, Finland, on the Midsummer Day, and back to Riga on the next day after the Midsummer Night.
On another great roadtrip we went to the Adriatic coast and islands of Croatia. Had superb time there!
In 2013, I went on a 750 km solo bicycle tour along the coast of Latvia and through northern Lithuania, now that was amazing experience!
