ABOUT ME

Hello!

My name is Mimi, I'm 26 years old, and I am currently on summer break after finishing my first year of teaching at a public school in Madison, Wisconsin. I love to travel, and I think that couch surfing is such a good way to go about it. I met some really friendly and cool people when I was teaching and traveling in Southeast Asia last year, and am excited to get back into it. I like to meet new people, and I think that the best way to visit a new place is to meet locals. If you come to Wisconsin, I'll make sure to set you up with some good local beer and cheese!

PHILOSOPHY

Hmmm... I think that my personal philosophy right now would be that everything happens for a reason, and there are no wrong decisions in life. For example- the other day my friend and I took a day tour of the Mekong Delta in Vietnam, and were pretty disapointed with the tour. We spent all day on a bus, only to be brought to a market that was closed hours before. We were bummed. Because we had so much time sitting doing nothing all day, I struck up a conversation with a girl on the tour, who happened to be living and teaching in Hanoi, Vietnam. A week later, I ran into her in Hanoi, and now we are planning on going trekking together in Laos in a couple of weeks. So, yeah- that tour sucked, but now I have a new person to travel with who I never would have met. Everything happens for a reason!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am traveling at the moment, and would love to be able to meet up with people in some of the cities that I will visit. If I find a place to stay somewhere, that would be an extra bonus!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haven't had too much experience yet- only have heard my friends rave about their experiences. I met up with some people in Vietnam through couch surfing for a beer, and it led to a great night! Pizza and beer on the beach- how can I top that?

Interests

I love to sing, play guitar (I'm learning... not too good yet), talk to people, work with kids, eat good food, drink good beer, laugh, read, and play games.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: I don't have a favorite movie, but for some reason My Big Fat Greek Wedding is coming to mind right now. I could watch that over and over again.

Music: Anything I can sing along to. Give me some Dixie Chicks, and I'll be happy.

Books: any book by Bill Bryson, Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, books by Isabel Allende, and of course, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Dancing to Gangnam Style in front of 1,500 Thai students during morning assembly was an experience I'll never forget... Didn't really have a choice in it, so we went all out!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to swap stories and share experiences, whether that be from travels, studies, or life events... Also, if you want to learn maybe 10 words in Thai- I can work with that. Anything past that, yikes...
