About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To save the world, one pint at a time. To visit at least one new country each year for the rest of my life. To never own a car, procreate, or equate "who I am" with what I do for a living. To take things in stride, when possible.

ABOUT ME

Naturally introverted, but I can fake an outgoing personality when required.

I grew up in mind-numbingly bland Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. At age 20, moved to Toronto to study film production at York Uni. Dropped out after 3 years, hitch-hiked to the Rocky Mountains with nothing but $700 and wild courage. Spent 3.5 years in a small town in the mountains, working the night shift at a hotel.

In January 2004, moved to the UK on a 2-year working holiday. Lived in Windermere ENGLAND, Cardiff WALES, and Oban SCOTLAND. Made a few treks to continental Europe as well. In March 2006, moved to Galway, IRELAND, spent a lovely year there drinking too much Guinness and having too much fun.

Moved home to Canada in spring 2007, spent a terrible year in Squamish BC before moving to "the island." After years of drifting, Victoria feels like the end of the road -- I'm quite content here. Small, quaint, active, lively city... a damn fine place to hang one's hat, and to run.

PHILOSOPHY

Minimalism, in all aspects of life.

Live where you WANT to live, not where you HAVE to live because of some stupid job.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

RUNNERS: if you're visiting Victoria and want a 'running tour' of the city, I'm your guy.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I surfed on the couches of friends and relatives many times, though never officially through this website. I once got in touch with a girl living near Derry, Northern Ireland... spent a weekend up there and got a free bed to crash on in my own room (wow)... and she actually took me surfing (like, on water) for the first time in my life.

Interests

I dig travelling, playing guitar, singing, reading Lonely Planet guides, staring at maps, eating banoffee-flavoured things, indie films and being cool.

I also run. Lots.

Music, Movies, and Books

Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Sufjan Stevens, Beck, Radiohead, Tori Amos, Ani DiFranco, that sort of thing. I dig documentaries and indie/foreign films. I like reading Lonely Planet guides and reference books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The Grand Canyon was, in a word, grand. I've done a few hitch-hiking trips across Canada and the U.S... spent 2 weeks thumbing from Toronto to L.A. and back again. Wild stuff.
Oh, I also spent time in the Baltic States last autumn... it doesn't get much more amazing than Latvia.

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn to swing dance.

If you're looking for new, strange, interesting music... I'm your man. I'll hook you up.
