About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Live, one breath at a time.

ABOUT ME
Hi there! I was born and raised in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, one of, if not the most, awesome cities in the world! Currently I'm an international student at Villanova University in sunny Philly. Graduating in May 2022 and will be moving to New York to sell my soul to corporate America, so looking to see as many places as I possibly can.

I am open-minded, friendly, and outgoing - my mom would agree! I am captivated by intelligent and thoughtful conversations, which is fortunately very prominent among CSers. I'd say around half of my most memorable human interactions have been with CSers, and I'm forever grateful for that.

PHILOSOPHY
"Enjoy this moment, right here; the one that just slipped away. Did you enjoy it??" - a certain wise man
“The gladdest moment in human life is a departure into unknown lands.” – Sir Richard Burton

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
During my high school years, I lived with an awesome host family that basically taught me EVERYTHING about America: politics, music, films, etiquette, sports, history, etc. So when I heard about my cousins' experience Couchsurfing the States and the amazing stories they brought back, you bet I was absolutely thrilled! Now, I hope to replicate those awesome memories myself by participating in the CS community.

I believe traveling is as much about the people as the destination. To borrow from The Twilight Zone s1e1: "There's one thing we can't simulate. That's a pretty basic need -- man's hunger for companionship, the barrier of loneliness." I know a thing or two about loneliness, and so also know the pleasure and joy of finding someone who you actually connect with on a higher level. I've had the pleasures to meet 1)the kindest man and 2)the smartest man I have ever met during my 10-day trip to the Midwestern US in August 2019. I hope to continue meeting awesome people in the CS community and share insightful conversations.

Lastly, no one knows the area more than the locals. As much as I look forward to the "must-see tourist traps," I welcome the pleasant surprises of hidden gems and spots only locals would know and to spend time with them to understand the way of life in town, and to truly embrace traveling as the cathartic experience it is.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My first impression with the CS community has been simply amazing. I was extremely fortunate to have been hosted by some of the kindest people I have met.

Update: My second impression: 2 trips in and I've had the blessing of meeting with brilliant minds and engaging in eye-opening conversations on this platform. I hold the CS's primary tenet of cultural exchange dear to my heart, which is what keeps me coming back to this platform. Ever since I'm in this community, my primary purpose of traveling has shifted from going to the attractions and snapping selfies to meeting awesome people, having great chats, and broadening my views, which I embrace as very positive change - it pushes me one step closer to peace, and I'm enjoying every moment in the community. In other words, I'm hooked on CS, so thank you.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Skinny dipping and naked snorkeling in Diamond Head Beach. Naked sunbathing for 6 hours 2 days in a row. The most serene experience of my life.

Riding my Honda scooter in Vietnam at 60mph and feeling the winds in my hair.

Joining the CS community which gave me such invaluable perspectives at the young age of 21.

Looking forward to trying extreme sports that I haven't tried. Bungee, skydiving, etc.
