About Me

*****************
June 2016 Update: I recently moved to Toronto but CS doesn't let me change my setting, so updating it here. I'm based in Toronto for good, and even though I've just been here for a few days, I have already felt loving this country to the moon and back! I hope to travel as much in the country as possible, and hope to meet fellow travelers here. Besides, I'm still new to the city, so if you're based in Toronto and can share tips or open for a chat, please let me know.

My bucket list for now:
- Tobermory & Flowerpot island & Bruce Peninsular
- Alongquin
- Banff National Park
- Vancouver
- Rocky Mountains
- Aurora Borealis
- seeing polar bear
- Gros Morne National Park

*****************

I’m from Vietnam and had only stepped outside of my home country when i was 18. The country at that time was Singapore, and even though we are just 1.5 hours fly away, I felt as if I was going to a new universe, as I didn’t have my parents there to tell me where to go and what to do next, the people speaking a language I did not understand, and I was sharing a room with three different girls whom I had never known before… It was not easy, but a very memorable experience that has shaped me into the girl I am today. I am stronger, more independent, more curious about the world, and more willing to accept differences among all of us.

Since Singapore, I have been to Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, UAE, Qatar, Canada, and the US, as well as discovered more places in my home country Vietnam. I consider the US as a very important country for me spiritually, as its ideologies are complete opposite of the conservative background I was growing up with, and yet somehow I feel very related to them.

Other things I love include: chocolate, good movie, cakes, road trips.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As explained above, I consider travelling as critical to my personal growth - and I mean travelling not only in terms of going to far away or exotic places but also in terms of exploring what we don’t know in our own knowledge, perception, and sense of the world. I have always loved to take people out and when my friend told me about Couchsurfing, I felt like I have found a community that is so close to my heart.

Currently, because I am sharing the place with my landlord, I am not allowed to host strangers at my place; however I would be more than happy to take people out and introduce to what Singapore has to offer.

I also hope to meet people in Couchsurf from different countries of the world! Rest assured that when I surf, I do not need anyone to entertain me or to take me around. I am happy enough to get to know you and discover your culture.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Considered myself somewhat “old” in my taste for music: I love Kenny Rogers, Beatles, as well as Carla Bruni. Also a huge fan of the best composer in my country, Trinh Cong Son (If you did not know him yet, Google him or I can share with you more about him!)
Movies: too many to list! I am a huge movie fan, especially those with good dialogues such as Pulp Fiction, Good Will Hunting, One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest. I also love Suits (for its focus on the Law), and Rust and Bone.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I’m quite average actually, not the one who likes attention on myself so allow me to skip this one :)

Teach, Learn, Share

We can exchange our stories!
I would love to learn about you: your culture, your country, and how you become you are today
I can share
And I’m learning French as well (beginner level); I think I have the worst French accent of all people on Earth but I’ll be forever grateful if anyone is willing to start a conversation with me in French :)
