Music, Movies, and Books

Two films that I enjoy but haven't seen in years are Before Sunrise and A Thousand Clowns. I am a patient film lover, less patient book lover. A mediocre or bad film is over quickly but a bad book is unbearable.
Books - Catcher in the Rye, Travels with Charley by Steinbeck, the Oxford English Dictionary, The Frenchman: A Photographic Interview With Fernandel
By Philippe Halsman (go find this Taschen book, reprinted recently and an absolute gem), any John le Carre (an exquisite writer who transcends genre categorization), any Gary Shteyngart, Turgenev's Fathers and Sons, all Dostoevsky....more to be added constantly.

Music - Chopin, Verdi, the Beatles, Miles Davis, Arvo Part, Dead Hot Workshop, the Feelies (go get some, trust me on this one), Bob Marley, every single thing Tom Waits has ever recorded...again, more to come constantly.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I remember looking out the window of an airplane one rainy afternoon and seeing spots of clouds like puffs of smoke each, and I mean twenty or thirty, perfectly encircled by a rainbow. These cloud filled rainbows floated below the plane and I stared at them deeply until they disappeared and, I knew, never to be seen again.
