About Me

Following my curiosities around the world. I'm working as a doctor in Brisbane but am thrilled to have holidays where I can go out and explore.

I'm open-mindedness and have a strong desire to learn. On my holidays, I hope to immerse myself into new cultures and make authentic connections with people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's the ideal platform for me. It provides opportunity to connect with local people, which gives me a glimpse of what normal life is like in the region - something I am more interested in than touring the hotspots. Plus I love learning new cultures and languages, and believe there is no better way than to immerse yourself. Financially, it's the best option for me too because I'd love for my flimsy budget to stretch the entirety of my deferred year.... we will see about that :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I go through a lot phases of music but I' currently liking atmospheric instrumental mixes that lie where electronic, meets Jazz, meets HipHop. Although I'll always love my Jack Johnson, Fleetwood Mac, Sticky Fingers, and many many more. As you can probably tell, I listen to wide variety and would love to listen to what you are currently into.

Movies: I like a lot of small scale independent films, but also big-name movies. Stanley Kubrick is one of my favourites directors, and my all time favourite movie being Stand By Me.

Books: Relates to movies as well, but I really enjoy stories that are not plot-driven. Ones that focus on character development where the story naturally unfolds. Some recent books I've enjoyed have been: Shantaram, One Hundred Years of Solitude and A Thousand Splendid Suns. I also love to read nonfiction, with my personal interest being in neurology and philosophy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Getting into Medical School - I know it's not the typical travellers 'amazing experience', and don't get me wrong I love a volunteer trip, or an adrenaline rush, or even an obscure cultural experience. But the knowledge that your hard work has paid off, and the prospect of saving lives and learning new biological phenomena as your everyday job: nothing can beat that!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can help you with English and Japanese, and can share my family traditions and countries' culture with you. I've had the privilege of growing up and living with two very different cultures, and its made me interested in others also (currently learning Spanish!).

Can also tell you a lot about the human body, and teach you some ballet or hockey too!

Some skills I am wanting to develop are: surfing, flower arranging and cocktail making - so if you have any experience is those things, its a great plus!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm very handy and love making crafts (such as screen prints, pressed flowers and cards) and also love to cook and am more than willing to give a hand with chores around the house! I am also respectful of people's busy lives and privacy, and so adaptable to any host.

The innumerable cool people I've met, the tens of books and podcasts I've taken in, and the pure interest I have on learning, means that I'm full of interesting facts and original theories. I am opinionated on most things, but am very respectful and mostly interested to hear what other's think and why. If you like to have some interesting conversations, we'll definitely get on well.
