About Me

I am a 30-something living in Denver, Colorado. I am an avid hiker and backpacker in the Colorado Rockies and looking to explore more hiking adventures around the world. My husband and I live in a small (490 square feet...yet we use the imperial system...and I do feel shame) studio apartment downtown. I enjoy card games, board games, and nearly any activity outdoors. In the recent years I have had the opportunity to hike (and enjoy wine) in Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, and Colombia (though the coffee was better than the wine in Colombia). My brother lives in Australia and I hope to expand my southern hemisphere adventuring in the near future.

I've written about a few of my travel and hiking adventures on my husband's blog, Travel, Save, and be Merry (http://travelsaveandbemerry.com/).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Years ago my husband and hosted a spare bedroom in our home on Airbnb. It was a delight to meet travelers and share my favorite Colorado hiking spots, best happy hours deals, and other top travel tips that tourists may not know of.

When traveling myself, I find meeting and learning from others is not only a great way to get the insiders tips, but also a fun way to meet knew people and hear fascinating stories of a new location. While in Colombia I met so many solo-female travelers who had fantastic travel stories. They gave me the courage to begin to explore solo hiking, backpacking, and traveling. Everyone has a few (if not a multitude) of great stories to share...I hope you will share your stories with me!

Music, Movies, and Books

I really enjoy reading historical fiction books that share a compelling story during a famous point in history. I recently enjoyed Nightingale, about two sisters during WWII in France. I also like dystopian, young adult novels, like Hunger Games and The Giver.

I enjoy folk and alternative music, though I can get into nearly any live music.

Similarly to books, I like historical fiction television and movies. I'm really enjoying Netflix The Crown.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've climbed over half of the 54 Colorado 14ers (mountains that are over 14,000 feet in elevation). These challenging and stunning hikes take me to the peaks of the Rocky Mountains and offer up unbelievable views! I really enjoy sharing these experiences with friends and fellow hikers. Whenever I reach a summit it is a celebration with those who have achieved the same feat. I really enjoy sharing the experience with those who were once strangers and now friends...for no other reason than we were on the same peak at the same time.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would be delighted to swap favorite stories over a game of cards or step in as a hiking buddy for any host who is interested in sharing their favorite outdoor adventures. I love hearing and sharing traveling success and failures...as well as life's mishaps and fortunes.

I am a half decent cook and really enjoy grocery shopping and cooking when I travel; if the opportunity presents itself I would be delighted to cook a meal and learn about the local cuisine.
