About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Restoring your faith in humanity

ABOUT ME

I'm a musician, artist, and writer hailing from Northern Ontario, Canada but have lived in Toronto (where I went to film school) and Hamilton, Ontario as well as New Orleans, Louisiana.
New Orleans has definitely been my adoptive home and I play trombone in a 12-piece funk/new wave band there. I also play piano, guitar, banjo, saxophone, and a little trumpet.
I work remotely as a graphic artist and closed captionist for TV/film which allows me mobility. I'm currently no fixed address as I've put all my things in storage in Ontario and am travelling around petsitting and housesitting. I'd love to meet up with CS folks as I'm usually flying solo, and also I occasionally need a place to stay in between sits when travel requires it.
I love linguistics, sound, carpentry, and cinema. I'm LGBTQ+ friendly (hate that that's not something automatically assumed!) Also 420 friendly, though I don't smoke a ton myself. All around I'm pretty tolerant of anyone who is friendly, open, empathetic and curious about the world.

As a guest, I can be out of your hair and keep to myself if that is the preference of the host. However, I am a social person and would enjoy chatting, sharing a drink or a game or a night of dancing should it be your fancy! I can easily adapt to different lifestyles.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is too short to only do one thing!
Time you enjoy wasting isn't wasted.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am looking for hosts upon whose couches I may surf, for the time being. When I have my own place, I plan to pay it forward and host more. Passionate about language exchange, cuisine, and anthropology.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have surfed in Montreal, BC, across the US, Hawaii, Mexico, Netherlands, Germany, Czechia, and Hungary. I've also hosted in New Orleans

Interests

I love trains, weird museums, film noirs, spaghetti westerns, people-watching, libraries, bar trivia, shopping for pieces of someone else's old junk, trying on hats, greasy spoon diners, getting sucked into google street view for hours, movie theatre projection booths, dancing, rock climbing, playing word games, and talking with my hands.

I'm also very good at building fires.

Music, Movies, and Books

Raised on rock and roll, grown to love new wave, punk, Ethiopian jazz, Brazilian music from the 70s, cumbia, funk and disco. A random selection of some faves:
Talking Heads
Jorge Ben Jor
Mulatu Astatke
Jonathan Richman
ESG
Fela Kuti
the B52s
The Rezillos
Los Saicos
Los Destellos
SPARKS!!!

Kurt Vonnegut, Anais Nin, Rebecca Solnit, Haruki Murakami, Roberto Bolaño, Gabriel García Márquez, and my soulmate Patti Smith. Let's talk about The Wayfinders by Wade Davis for hours into the night!

Old character actors like Robert Mitchum, Harry Dean Stanton, and Lee Van Cleef really do it for me.
Jarmusch and Lynch, Wes Anderson, etc... also unapologetic Nic Cage devotee

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Lassoed an iceberg chunk in Labrador as a child
Wrangled rattlesnakes while working as a park ranger as a teenager
Danced on stage with Bruce Springsteen
Played arcade games with Tommy Wiseau
Paraglided in Pana, Guatemala
Hot air balloon ride over the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, Egypt
Performed with my band at the world's largest Naked Bike Rally in St Louis

Teach, Learn, Share

I speak French, am learning Spanish and German so would love pointers!
I also play (and can somewhat teach) piano, guitar, banjo, sax and trombone

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to play music, and will dabble on anything you have lying around. I also have a lil culinary know-how and love to cook with/for other people!
I will happily do dishes, I'm not lying.
