About Me

ABOUT ME

I'm a 23 year old English girl currently living in St Albans, an old Roman city about 20 miles north of London. By day, I work as a professional Harry Potter expert (no, really!) at J.K. Rowling's website Pottermore, and by night I work as a freelance writer, blogger and journalist. Writing about food, drink and travel is my absolute passion, but if I can throw in the odd Harry Potter reference then I will!

I first joined the Couchsurfing community while on my Year Abroad at San Francisco State University in 2013 - I stayed with a wonderful host during a last-minute trip to New York and had THE BEST time seeing the city through a local person's eyes, and it really ignited my love of travelling.

Currently, I'm planning a big American road trip with two of my best friends, Zoe and Jess, and we are looking for hosts to stay with at many of our stops on the way. We'll be in the States from July 13th-September 13th 2016 and want to visit New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Memphis, Nashville, New Orleans, Houston, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco - and lots of other little places in between.

I will be documenting our experiences on my blog (hopefully in the form of travel diary entires and videos), but my friends are also creative-minded people, as they both study at Norwich University of the Arts. Jess studies Fine Art and works with multimedia and photography, while Zoe is an illustrator. We want to come away from this America trip feeling inspired!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I believe it's the best way to travel - experiencing a place with the people who know it best, rather than simply going to all the tourist hotspots. In my experience, Couchsurfers are also the best kind of travellers! The community is full of friendly, chatty, open individuals, who often have amazing life stories they just want to share. It's a great way to meet like-minded people.

Interests

I work part-time for a cocktail magazine so love checking out new bars and trying delicious, experimental drinks. I am also a huuuuge foodie so anywhere with good veggie food appeals to me - I've grown up eating homegrown food from my parents' allotment, so love to experience fresh, locally grown seasonal food, and am always willing to try something new!

I love the great outdoors, and walking/hiking is one of my passions. I want to visit as many places of natural beauty as I can in my lifetime, and top of my bucket list is New Zealand. While in America my friends and I hope to camp in the Appalachian mountains and on the Californian coast near Big Sur.

I'm also interested in live music, art, theatre, and I'm a bit of a history geek so love going to museums and exploring the history of the places I visit. I also love meeting new people and staying up to the small hours dancing or discussing the meaning of life!
