About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to grow as a person wherever I go

ABOUT ME

I've travelled a lot so far, and hope I'll never have to stop. I'm an optimistic, cheerful and chatty person who always has a smile on her face, but I'm also a quiet bookworm who is happy planning her own adventures.

I grew up in the very multicultural suburbs of Toronto, Canada and am studying architecture. My boyfriend Lucas (who sometimes shares this profile with me - see photos) is a documentary filmmaker. Both of these pursuits will hopefully give us a lot of excuses to travel!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I can be a sociable or quiet couchsurfer. I love meeting new people and connecting to them and having spontaneous conversations, but I equally enjoy travelling alone and discovering new things.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've couchsurfed with some wonderful hosts, and keep recommending CS to my friends back home. With some of my hosts we've stayed up until 2am talking, with one incredible CS house in Dublin I even cancelled my sightseeing plans to stay in to make dinner and garden and do yoga because they were SO MUCH FUN to hang out with.

I haven't hosted formally on couchsurfing, but when I did an exchange and internship in Rome and London, our apartment was always open to friends we met while travelling.

Interests

I love reading, I can get completely lost in book. I also love languages, museums, trying exotic food, cooking with new recipes and fresh vegetables from the market, art films, spending a day at the park, doing yoga on my deck at night, and lately, learning to code and 3d print.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to anything, but mostly indie rock - my playlist most recently has Vashti Bunyan, Of Monsters and Men, Mumford and Sons. I don't really seek out music on my own, but love it when people recommend music to me.

Movies that strike me include anything by Lars von Trier, Tarkovsky, Babette's Feast, all of the Miyazaki animes, Fellini's Roma, Before Sunrise

I will happily read anything from several hundred page classic Russian novels to Harry Potter. My favourite authors are Canadian - Margaret Atwood and Alice Munro.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There are so many!

Learning to ride a motorcycle in India because it was the only way to get around. Taking trains that were packed beyond my imagination.

Visiting my coworker's family in the foothills of the Himalayas, where they lived in a several-hundred-years-old English cottage nestled in the mountains, and being enfolded into a lifestyle of servants and multi-course Indian dinners.

Lying on the floating dock with a magazine at a friend's cottage in Canada, with the lake waters glistening around us, feeling perfectly at peace with the wilderness.

When I was five years old, my parents took me on my first trip to Japan and then to Australia and New Zealand, where I "rode" a kangaroo.

I don't have any pets but I love them, and when I spent several months house/pet-sitting a dog, five cats, and fourteen turtles I was delighted. :)
