About Me

Hi I'm Mirka, I live in a small city close to Arnhem, NL with a bunch of lovely, crazy, sweet and creative people. I have an art studio space in Arnhem where I draw and make etchings.
Right now I'm working on a project, discovering more about all sorts of European folk tales, superstition, myths and strange and magical beings.
I've made quite some drawings based on more exotic creatures from South America and Asia but I really want to learn more about our local traditions and celebrations concerning creatures form the underworld/otherworld, ghosts, demons, witches, gnomes etc. etc.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

...so there's a big chance that when I contact you it's because of this search that I've spoken about above.

I've been on couchsurfing before but for some years I abandoned my account and it dissappeared in digital oblivion :)

I've both surfed and hosted and people looking for a host near Arnhem can contact me.

Interests

Drawing, painting, printmaking, reading all sorts of books (mosty two or three at the same time with big pauses in between... unless it's one of those page turning novels that make you forget about eating and sleeping :), arthouse/cult/superhero movies, playing my diatonic accordeon, drinking coffee and having long talks and forgetting about time, photography, dancing, cooking big meals etc. etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

Pfew too many to mention... Concernin gmusic and books I don't know where to start... I've got what you could call an eclectic taste (or a chaotic and all-over-the-place one...) "The Flamethrowers" by Rachel Kushner is a great read.

I've recently seen "The Lobster" (from a greek director), "A girl walks home alone at night" (an iranian Cult movie), "Victoria" (one take movie by german director), "No lovers left alive" (most romantic vampire movie)... all great films!

I love Jarmush, Gondry, Sophia Coppola, Kaufman, van Warmerdam, the Coen brothers, most superhero sagas.
