I am a common enough guy that has been on the receiving end of many a kindness of strangers and believes in paying it forward.

I lean towards introversion. I like gently sticking my nose into other people’s business and uphold the proud Balkan tradition of sitting over a coffee for an hour and half. I prefer home cooking over restaurants, local dives over franchise bars, Lidl over Calvin Klein. I abhor status symbols but feel an unsettling attraction towards the taillights of a Mercedes-Benz. I wish they’d make a sort of Roomba but for maintaining a garden. I love socializing in smaller, friendly groups, say over hiking, movies, basketball, a barbecue. I love social games like Pictionary or Dixit.

PHILOSOPHY

I like the "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" principle. I'm becoming aware of its limitations, though, particularly between vastly different cultures. So maybe "Invest some reasonable effort into figuring out how others like it done unto them, then perform the doing-unto as best you can." Doesn't have the same ring to it, does it?

People interest me a lot. I enjoy listening to their stories, their opinions, catching a glimpse of what makes them tick. All the related fields interest me--psychology, sociology, philosophy; even anatomy I guess. I love nature; camping, hiking, touring.

I enjoy healthy food.

There's a geeky streak in here as well and interest in technology and futurism.

I grew up on Stephen King and still love him to bits. Well, I originally grew up on the Famous Five, but then they gave way to Stephen King. George RR Martin is a more recent favourite. I love non-fiction, science-y books that are not too dryly written, covering all sorts of fields. Daniel Kahneman, Malcolm Gladwell, Nick Bostrom and especially Yuval Harari--the most fascinated I've ever been by a book.

Movies.. I love everything the Coen brothers cook up, Christopher Nolan, Lars von Trier. I am smack in the middle between American and European cinematography, leaning increasingly towards Europe. Some favourites include No Country for Old Men, Memento, Let the Right One In, Poor Things, Silence of the Lambs. I appreciate witty dialogue and fleshed-out, believable characters.

Music: all over the place. Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, Muse, Beastie Boys, Rammstein--see what I mean?

I can teach you programming. I can teach you English (or Croatian, if that were your cup of čaj). I know a good deal about how the human body and mind work for a layman. About nutrition. How to cook on the road. I am pretty good at understanding dogs.

I want to learn how to make really good whole wheat bread. And about massage, muscles, photography. Histories, cultures, customs and peoples. And learn to play a musical instrument--guitar, saxophone or drums.

Most of all I want to learn how many different people from many different places see the world, see themselves and see others.
