About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My mission is to fall in love with the world. Again and again.

ABOUT ME

I'm always looking for inspiration. I have so much to learn. The world is so wonderful, sad and crazy. I don't really have much of a filter. I try to be as open as I can to what the world has to show me.

PHILOSOPHY

For me life is all about doing what makes you happy. And I'll persue happiness right up until the point where it starts to interfere with someone elses. And cats and dogs and the birds and the bees are also "someone else". So I struggle to keep my environmental footprint low. But I fall flat on my face with this one.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I travel a lot! I truly do enjoy room service so I'll stick to hotels and let you keep your couch! I should add that staying in someone's home--getting to meet their family and seeing the space they spend their life in--sounds like one of the best ways of getting to know another person. But I travel with way too much stuff to impose on someone. But let's get together and explore where ever it is I'm at right now! Let's get together for coffee/Sheesha/beer/a stroll... Any excuse to hang out will do just fine!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've never slept on anyone's couch, but I've met interesting people through get togethers on this website. These experiences have been such a gift.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: City of God, The Corporation, Planet Earth docs, Philadelphia, Gandhi and on and on...

Music: Folk + a little bit of everything.

Books: I love poetic prose. Inspirational books. Even purportedly "dry educational books" are repositories of wonder if the subject fascinates me. Here are some examples of books that I love: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Philosophy and Social Hope, Brothers Karamazov, A Modern Introduction to Psychology.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have a pathological tolerance for risk. So I've done a lot of crazy things. To pick one out of the stack, when I did my documentary on homelessness I decided to be the subject. So I became homeless in Vancouver during the winter. I traded my middle class privileges for poverty in one of the most dangerous places in Canada: Vancouver's downtown east side. I lived on the streets for a month.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a lot about homelessness and drug addiction in Canada. Advertising and it's effects on western society. Gender roles in Canada. Moral philosophy. Political philosophy. Tattoo and comic art. And I've received a fist hand third world education on the UN missions in Congo, Darfur, South Sudan and Cote D'Ivoire.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, China, Côte d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, France, Mexico, Netherlands, Sudan, Uganda, United States, Virgin Islands, British
