ABOUT ME

About me...I often find it difficult to talk about who I am and "what I'm about" because I still find myself tweaking my emic and at times feel the pressures of a quarter-life crisis.

I would describe myself as a pleasantly imperfect and sarcastic agnostic, with environmentalist, minimalist and vegetarian tendencies, liberal political opinions, with a soft spot for youth/outcasts.

Currently I'm in the process of completing my Single Subject English (High School) teaching credential and M.S. in Education (but who knows if that's what I'll end up pursuing as a career) as well as earning a pilot's license. However, I have sold most of my possessions and will be moving abroad, as I believe all young adults should while they're still young, able and alive (stop making excuses, silly).

My future has a vague certainty (A.K.A. constant state of flux), just the way I like it, and I could die tomorrow having enjoyed a fulfilling life thus far (but have so much more to experience and share).

PHILOSOPHY

Through my experiences in life I have come to believe that "not all who wander are lost" (J.R.R. Tolkien), even though American society may lead us to believe otherwise.

When indulging in the pleasures of life "everything in moderation-including moderation" (Harvey Steiman), otherwise one tends to inhibit their natural right for the pursuit of happiness.

Regarding decision making, "it's better to ask for forgiveness than for permission" (Grace Hopper) so long as it doesn't involve your permanent record!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Despite my former housemates and my attempts to participate in CS during our travels throughout the past few years, I have only done so on 3 occasions. Yet somehow, we attracted four flamboyant international CSers, as well as five fellow Americans, to our humble home and had quite memorable experiences (nearly entirely positive--nothing is perfect). I would love love love to have more people stay with me and get a taste of suburban Southern California life whence I return from my travels (your guess is as good as mine on the date, though). Aside from that, I love to travel and meet people who are open to share their life experiences so being a member of CS is a FUNtastic alternative to induce both!

兴趣

Experiencing change--in location, culture, weather, people. Awkward situations (you know who you are). Pulling/being pranked (love you, Ph). Being outside--any outdoor activity I've either tried or am willing to try, after a brief self-induced pep-talk (I'm easily entertained if surrounded by endless expanses of nature). Reflecting in my hammock. Yoga. Dancing--line, salsa, swing, freestyle. Dominos. Making people laugh/smile, especially if I'm helping them in some form.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Volunteering with adolescents in the foster system, at The Y camps located in our local mountains, and witnessing the emotional growth of these campers (over the course of just one week). Some of them have been through more struggles in their young lives than I will in my lifetime and it's amazing to watch them transform from be vulnerable and create a new persona for themselves while attending the resident camp.
