About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My current mission is to make my art, travel around the world, eat a lot of good food, meet new people and turn them into new friends!

ABOUT ME

I grew up in Austin, Tx and moved up to South Lake Tahoe, Ca in 2012. I work full time at a hotel but I consider myself a potter and try to throw as much ceramics during the summer as I can (my uncovered back porch is my studio so it closes down over the winter!). I like to read, play video games, play board games, spend time on the couch with my cat, and snowboar. I love to travel in the US and abroad (which I really need to do more of), though I am in love with South Lake Tahoe and plan on being here for a while.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have couch surfed a couple times and have hosted some people up here in South Lake; our apartment is small so we don't always have a couch available but I'm happy to give you recommendations on places to go and sights to see in Tahoe!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed twice for a ceramics convention, once in Tampa and once in Seattle, and both times were very entertaining and enlightening experiences. I find it far more fun to stay with new people who can actually show me around and tell me about the cities than to stay in a hotel.

Interests

Ceramics and other forms of art, reading (especially science fiction and fantasy, but I'll read anything), animals of all sorts, food (I really really love food), video games, hiking, going to the beach, snowboarding, riding my bike around, tv/movies, music...

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: the Fifth Element, Dark Knight, Serenity (and the Firefly series of course),Labyrinth, the Princess Bride... and a million more I can't think of right now.
Music: Sparta, Mars Volta, Nine Inch Nails, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Incubus, David Bowie, At the drive-in, Daft Punk, Florence+the machine, Mastadon, Rush
Books: Dune (and the rest of the series), Game of Thrones, anything by Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, William Gibson, Neil Stephenson, Mercedes Lackey, Neil Gaimen.. The list goes on.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I met William Gibson at a book signing! When I was a teenager my dad got me into a lot of classic science fiction, and introduced me to William Gibson, primarily Neuromancer. It blew my mind when he came to Austin to do a signing; his books were a big influence on me and the direction my reading went.

Teach, Learn, Share

Really the one thing I specialize in is ceramics, mostly wheel throwing. I have given some informal lessions to friends and family, and would be willing to do so again.

I would love to (re)learn more Spanish! I never was very fluent, and have forgotten a lot since school.

What I Can Share with Hosts

If you ski or snowboard I can show you my favorite runs at Heavenly, Northstar, or Kirkwood depending on how much driving you want to do. During the summer we can check out some cool hiking trails, cliff diving spots, and beach hangouts. We can play with clay, eat some great food, and grab a drink at one of my favorite hangouts!
