About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Everyone seems to go to far flung places for their travels. I want to see what Europe has to offer. And learn how to order a beer in every country I visit (including Scotland...)

ABOUT ME

I like reading, writing, gaining pointless trivial knowledge (wikipedia is my bible), practicing languages (focusing on french at the moment), travelling (I actually enjoy the bit in between leaving and arriving!), window shopping (university taught me to not actually buy everything I see that I like), snowboarding, longboarding (badly), playing guitar (also badly!), exploring, talking, listening, taking photos of graffiti, music of all kinds (and associated festivals / venues) and, almost more than anything else, my two dogs back home.

**I was verified, but due to several changes of address whilst au pairing and exploring France couchsurfing has decided I shouldn't be verified anymore :o( **

PHILOSOPHY

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and choices. It is not our place to tell someone they are wrong, and so we should respect others ideas as much as our own (unless it is about pizza).

"It is not you that makes your decisions, but your decisions that make you"

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Currently, I would just like to meet people to have a drink with, talk, see their local area (wherever that may be) and gain a bit more knowledge about the culture and history. Or sports. Or art. Or language. Or pretty much anything.

I also love to be part of roadtrips. Anywhere, anytime (if I am available). I have a full driving licence for the EU and have years of practice (in the UK and the rest of Europe). Need a driver? Let me know!

In the future I hope to be able to provide a nice comfortable sofa and a few cold beers for any travellers passing through, however currently (as I am a guest here) that isn't possible :o(

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Penthouses in Paris, sofas in Serbia and campervans crossing Europe - I love to be part of the travelling and netowrking experience as much as possible. Being met from the airport by Milan (who is somewhere on this site) before EXIT 2010 was great, as (amongst other things) he managed to argue the taxi driver down from 20euros to 10! Seriously - the guy is a legend.

Staying with my friends in Slovenia for NYE was a new level of partying - 4 days in the mountains in a hostel / cabin with 120-something Slovenians, one French girl and one English boy (me!). Possibly the best NYE possible.

Interests

As above - pretty much everything. Museums, galleries, stand up comedy (ideally in English!), graffiti, kayaking, snowball fights, most sporting events, bars and cafes, almost any music (and related events)....I particularly enjoy exploring woods / mountains / beaches. I think the childish part of me that likes finding fish in rockpools, climbing trees and finding animal tracks on muddy paths never bothered growing up.

I also like to try new things. Apart from a ridiculous fear of heights (I know I'm not going to fall, but tell my subconscious that!), I would love to give most sports etc a go...this list includes (but isn't limited to) - diving, zorbing, caving, deep sea fishing....

Music, Movies, and Books

My favourite film is Step Brothers. Again, I think there is a part of me that never grew up. My favourite genres are Cinema Verite, Documentary / Mockumentary (Rec., Cloverfield etc) and comic book adaptations / style films(Watchmen, The 300, Zombieland, Kick Ass, Sin City etc). Some films I would recommend: La Haine (set in post-riot Paris. It's amazing), Cidade de Deus, Bienvenue chez le Ch'tis....

I like almost all music. Rock, Reggae, Jazz, Chill-out, Ska, some Classical stuff....recommend something, and I will listen to it. Favourite bands / artists at the moment - Brand New, Mumford and Sons, Yodelice, Plan B, Chase and Status, Dub Mafia, Joan Armatrading, Foos, QOTSA, Magnetic Man, Foreign Beggars....

Again with books - almost all genres. Especially Gonzo journalism(Hunter S Thompson etc), fantasy / sci-fi (GEEK) and the classics. Fact or fiction - happy to read it. My favourite authors are probably Irvine Welsh, Hunter S, Terry Pratchett, Philip K Dick and Neil Gaiman. I also love graphic novels (comic books, to everyone else). Watchmen and the Sandman Chronicles are amazing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

First time I put a chip on a roulette table (in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas); $20 on 13 Black. It came up, and my friend and I walked away with $720. And then spent it all on beer.

New Years Eve in Times Square, NYC.

Drinking WikiWakiWoos in 'Pr Skelet in Ljubljana.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a qualified English teacher for foriegn students, so I can offer English lessons if wanted! I am also happy to help with university essays and similar things (spellchecking, proof reading, suggestions etc).

I can also teach you Wish You Were Here on guitar. But I'm not very good at that.... :o)
