About Me

CURRENT MISSION

wandering barefoot through life with a cup of tea in my hand making friends along the way

ABOUT ME

Hello I'm Dan. I'm a fairly relaxed and cheerful fellow I think! I love to meet new people so I've been really enjoying hosting a bit recently.
I'm addicted to live music and I go to as many gigs as I can. I love to hear original music best of all. I guess I tend to veer more towards folky, funky stuff rather than rock but my tastes are very eclectic. I go to at least one gig most weeks.
I love really wild places- coves, forests, moors and make sure I get to them as often as possible.
I haven't travelled much for various reasons but I pootled down through some amazing bits of France last year - the Gorges du Tarn, parts of Provence and les Calanques. I'm dying to explore and discover more of the world than the corner of it that I live in even though it is amazing here.

PHILOSOPHY

I think our world and the people in it are glorious and beautiful and I want to experience as much wonder, fun and friendship as my life can hold!
Not that I'm manic - I just utterly love life, even the rubbish bits.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love hosting couch-surfers. I have had some amazing times and made some fantastic friends from around the world. I live in an amazing area on the South coast of Cornwall and love to introduce people to the local hidden treasures.
I also plan to go travelling soon and I love the idea of making new friends and finding local knowledge where I travel.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted quite a few people since I came across couchsurfing this year and I've always enjoyed myself thoroughly. I'm becoming known in my village for turning up to the pub or on the beach with visitors from around the world. So far we've had fires on the beach, surf lessons, wild parties, dancing at gigs, beachy walks, swimming in the sea, drinks in the bar watching the sunset and more.

Interests

Tea! From builders brew to homemade chai to hand roasted oolong or herbal infusions - I love the stuff.
Music is a huge part of my life in many ways.
Friends - they really are what life's all about!
And stories, art, campervan conversions, foraging, trying new food, spices, singing, playing the piano badly and probably a whole lot more stuff.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books...I read a lot so this could go on! I love good short stories as well as novels. A few authors I like: Neil Gaiman, Tom Holt, Douglas Coupland, Marina Lewycka, HP lovecraft, Charles Stross, Christopher Brookmyre, Ray Bradbury, Carl Hiaasen, Bram Stoker, Kurt Vonnegut, Terry Pratchett and many more.

Music... Again this could get loooong! Tom Waits, Molotov Jukebox, Cesaria Evora, Baka Beyond, Yann Tiersen, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Xavier Rudd, Ben Howard, Bob Dylan, The Cat Empire, Tony Gatlif, Wille and the Bandits, George Clinton, Erik Satie, Mozart, Mussorgsky, Dvorak, folk songs, soul, funky dance music, lots of 'ethnic' music.

Films... good artistic films or funny stuff generally. Or monsters. I do like a good monster! O brother where art thou, Amelie, Pans Labyrinth, Studio Ghibli films, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian, Hot Fuzz, The Birds, Le Diner de coms, Endhiran, the Alien films, time of the gypsies

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Visiting Buddhist temples in China, snorkelling in les Calanques in France, going to awesome gigs in Cornwall....

Teach, Learn, Share

I know far too much about tea and I love to share my knowledge. From making chai to understanding how to drink green tea or make herbal infusions that actually taste good. I'm also fairly knowledgeable about herbs and spices.
I have a hankering to learn artistic and music stuff mainly. And I don't seem to have much luck keeping indoor plants alive!
