About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To travel around California for a few months.

ABOUT ME

Hello surfers. Lovely to be here. My name's Robbie and all I need is a good meal and a good laugh. Some say I'm tragically English with my tea drinking and eccentric take on life. I guess I am a Londoner through and through and aside from the weather it's great. Apart from when getting told off by my boss or funerals I'm not one for taking things too seriously either. Oh and I have two role models; John Cleese and Sandy Cohen. Yes in times of great deliberation I do find myself asking what would John/Sandy do?

PHILOSOPHY

I like to think that one should be free and comfortable to approach one's fellow man anytime, anywhere and strike up a conversation... Of course sometimes I'll admit, that's easier said than done but hey that's what couchsurfing's for!

As an agnostic I frequently try to remind myself of my own ignorance as ultimately we're all just made of irrational emotions and spacedust.

I'm also a bit of an armchair Philosopher so a little Descartes, Sartre e.t.c doesn't go a miss. Oh and you could call me a quasi Buddhist. I meditate a little and read around the subject. I could go on for a bit...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Sadly I can't host people at the moment but I've done my fair share of surfing.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far I've met and surfed with a bunch of awesome characters when I went on my Californian expedition. All lovely chaps.

Interests

I am very thankful to have pretty much everything I want, which thankfully isn't much. As long as I can skate, relax under a nearby tree, read my book and go to the pub with my various compadres I don't really need much else. So despite what all those clever copywriters say I think I might be immune to adverts. Still as a film fan/maker I guess I do spend a fair bit of cash on movies (and pizza).

Music, Movies, and Books

Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell is a beautiful piece of writing.

"The Pig That Wants to be Eaten" is also a great intro into Philosophy as is Descartes' "Meditations".

Then there are some standards like Freakonomics and Catcher in the Rye. Oh and of course my various Buddhist texts.

Movie wise It's mostly British and American indies. Quality blockbusters and good foreign films won't go a miss either.

As for music... well how long have you got?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My short time spent in Bolivia. The combination of salt flats, deep blue sky and simple living were truly eye opening... Walking San Francisco's streets naked was pretty cool too ; )

Teach, Learn, Share

Content people. People who have an outlook and way of dealing with life that makes nothing but sense. I believe that wisdom is the most crucial strength to master. Without it, life's pleasures are taken for granted and life's woes become unmanageable. Whilst plenty of things can be learnt from a book the rest and most important of life's lessons I believe come from life itself and the behavior of others.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Germany, United States
