Currently (Feb 2015), I'm traveling without a goal in mind other than to find places where I can work on filling notebooks and have experiences with people who are down to go to a show, have crazy conversations, and who have things they are excited to share.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I got on Couchsurfing because I am going to be in Europe from February 9th to the 23rd, and some friends of mine suggested I give it a try. I have a few places where I can crash otherwise, but the whole concept sounds really interesting. So many people have vouched for it to me in a short space of time, so here I am, gonna give it a shot.

Interests

I have been drawing and painting for many years now. I want to use my travels as inspiration and time to take a break from working so that I can focus on nourishing my creative side. I love music. I would love to go to a show, even if it's not my kind of music. Lately I've been listening to a lot of electronic music. I also have an intense interest in math and science, specifically physics. I have almost finished an undergraduate degree in the subject. I love getting into what people think and see in the world. I can, and often have, stay up all night talking metaphysics and perception, Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, how to draw this that and whatever...

I have been involved for a few months with Food Not Bombs in Portland, Oregon, USA. I would really like to find some FNB that is operating in European cities.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite musician is Aphex Twin (Richard D. James). I love electronic dance music. I love most forms of metal, especially live. I really enjoy a good concert band. I played trumpet in the UW Marching Band for a little bit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0zbw2upU6U

As for movies, I have a hard time narrowing it down. The Fifth Element was my favorite for a long time. I like horror movies. I like dramas. Really the more intelligent the film is the better.

Books. I've read so many books it's hard to narrow down. Steinbeck is great. I've read a lot of Stephen King. I like poetry a lot, Edgar Allen Poe. I like to read scientific nonfiction. I like fantasy and sci-fi. I'm currently working on stories myself, one fantasy, one sci-fi.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I rode a bicycle from Madison, WI to Nashville, TN. it was a 900 mile trip and I stayed at my first hostel when I arrived. Perhaps my favorite memory of that whole ride was when me and my friend were biking through endless cornfields in Illinois and we came across a ranch where three or four horses were grazing in the pasture. They saw us biking down the road and ran along with us on the opposite side of the fence until they ran out of pasture. I really felt like a part of their little herd in that moment.
