About Me

Hello world!

This is Miya, from Asia, belong in the world!

I’m a free spirit, a nature lover, an animal enthusiast, a fearless adventurer and a perpetual pursuer of authenticity. I freeze time with my little black box, capturing the most authentic moments of people’s lives, and I jump out of a plane over and over and embrace the sky whenever I can. I live a minimalist life with an abundance of stories, experiences and deep connections.

I believe in the good in people. This belief, along with my background of social science studies has propelled me to look through stereotypes and explore the true nature of human beings. I hitchhike, I couch-surf, I eat with my hand, sitting on a tree stomp with my fellow Malawians. I plant seeds in the soil on a Kenyan island. I take a 17-hour bus ride to the most remote village of Tanzania. I live amongst the people, wherever I go.

Walking the world like this for the past 3 years has helped me understand different cultures and myself on a much deeper level. The societies that we grew up in and live in shape us in all sorts of ways, most of the time without us noticing, but deep down, we are not that different. We are all beautiful and unique souls looking for love and a sense of belonging in this ever-changing world.

The world that we were born into was completely arbitrary. It’s the world that we create that matters.

May you always stay true to yourself.
May you live without fear and regrets.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm fascinated about different cultures around the world. I believe the best way to learn and understand a culture is to live with the locals, try to speak their language, eat the food that they eat, respect their customs and be a part of their life, even just for a short period of time :)
