About Me
CURRENT MISSION
"To see the world, to make friends in the world, to taste food in the world!" were the missions on my round world trip (2013-2014). This time, my husband who is an architect has joined my life and we’re traveling around the world to learn about A-frame houses!
ABOUT ME
Hi, everyone! I’m Mizuho and my friends call me "Mizi" - my nickname given by my American host grandmother when I was 16.
After teaching at junior high schools for 8 years, I quit my job to make my dream - traveling around the world - come true. As a teacher, I had always encouraged my students saying "You can do it!" and at the same time, I had told that to myself, too.
When I was about to leave my former job, Tsunami came to my school city. The experience made me appreciate my life more than ever. I'm willing to share that experience with you, too.
After coming back home, I started running my own English school. I welcomed 76 students within 2 years and half. I made a very happy instructor thanks to my dear students. My husband used to be one of them. :)
After living in the mega city, Tokyo for a year and a bit, we left for this nine-month trip in the world.
PHILOSOPHY
My favorite quote is "Everything is gonna be alright” or “Things come to you in order” so I don’t worry too much.
I love what I have so wasting is not for me.
I admire people who appreciate everything in their everyday life.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I learn about the world through making friends with people from other places. I’m interested in every day life the most.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I had my first couchsurfing in New York City and it was a great experience. My host was very welcoming so that I felt at home there. We talked about many things and shared the joy to know that there are so many people who want to support each other and know each other and make this world more beautiful through Couchsurfing!
I did couchsurfing in Quebec City, Halifax, and Prince Edward Island, CANADA then.
On my trip around the world, I couchsurfed in Thailand, Vietnam, Jordan, Turkey, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, France, Portugal, New Zealand. All of my hosts had great hospitality. I felt at home thanks to them.
Back home, I welcomed a French couchsurfer to my school’s event.
In Tokyo, my husband and I hosted quite a few couchsurfers to our little flat and enjoyed sharing a lot of different things in our every day life.
Interests
I'm interested in traveling so that I can make more friends, try new food (I'm such a foodie!), experience more in this beautiful world, and see the world.
I like listening to others' life stories, talking, eating, cooking, and writing.
I'm intersted in culture, history, and the nature.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like to listen to others hum.
I like any kind of happy music.
I like "Sound of Music", "Alladin", "Pay it Forward", "Cool Running"... but the very best is "National Velvet"!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've traveled around the world alone and visited 33 countries within 1 year!
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach: I know how to teach English to non-natives, how to cook Japanese cooking, how to write Japanese letters... I can think out Japanese letters for your name.
Learn: I'd love to learn how to cook your favorite breakfast menu and your mom's cooking.
Share: I'd like to listen to you about your traveling and life experiences and also I'd love to share mine with you, too. I'd love to share food and time with you because they're the best ways to make friends with others!
