ABOUT ME

The short version: Rational and crazy, humorous and a cynic, I rock, I dive, I cycle, very few neuroses, IT power user.

The long version: I grew up on the countryside near Linz where my parents have a small farm as a sideline. After school which made an IT power user out of me I decided that "near Linz" was too quiet for me and I moved to the city three years ago - which doesn't mean that Linz is not quiet :-). While working as a software engineer and "business tripping" around a little bit I became addicted to travelling and diving. Since then I always try to get a few weeks off for a journey and not just going on a package tour. Besides being interested in natural sciences I'm also quite a political person. This means that I like discussions around politics and economics and that I try to flee from the mainstream media for the purpose of looking behind the scenes. As a consequence of having an office job I started bicycling and swimming to keep the belly within acceptable boundaries.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

So far I've primarily acted the host role but I'll try to use CS more as a guest. I'm always open to participate in whatever my guests or hosts do to get some real insights - as this is what CS is all about. So I would say that I'm spontaneous, not totally but above the average.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had around 25 visits some of them who came to Linz because of their job or to gather information about studying here. Nevertheless most of them either travelled or took the bicycling tour along the danube. With most of them it was real fun to have dinner, spend a night in bars/pubs or to just stay at home and chat.

Interests

Diving, diving, diving because of the crazy fish
Books (so far only reading them), mainly in humanities, economics and natural science, sometimes novels - preferably fantasy, science fiction, detective stories
Bicycling, swimming

Music, Movies, and Books

I like music a lot and I listen nearly everything except Austrian and German folk and beat music as these are not just brainless but also sound horrible. Die Ärzte, Rammstein, Placebo, Green Day, everything that rocks are just some of the bands you can catch me with.

When it comes to movies I just want to mention a few: Fight Club, Lord of War, Crude Oil, The Corporation - this should say a lot about me. When I'm not at home you can probably catch me in a cinema - preferably arthouse.

And books are important. If I've to live through the next ice age I wouldn't burn them for heat, except law codes and 20th century economics. If you want to hand a gift over to me I'll be glad if its something philosophical or just a good thriller.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Awesome animals at the reefs and in the jungle most impressed me as far as nature is concerned. Respective humanity its the poor people like in India, Thailand or Ecuador eking out a living who exact respect from me.

Watch out for the Blue Man.

Countries I’ve Visited
