CURRENT MISSION

I am an artist and director of the ACOSS artists residency center based in Armenia. We realize cross-border cultural exchanges. As an arts professional I am traveling quite often and sometimes I need help to find accommodation for short stay.

ABOUT ME

I am Mkrtich Tonoyan, an Armenian artist, president of the AKOS Cultural NGO, director of the ACOSS artist-in-residence program, based on exchanges, member of Atists' Union of Armenia.
I am traveling very often and also have guests and visiting artists very offen. I like music, ethnic, jazz and classic and socializing with people. Like drinking beer and speaking about histiry, art and philosophy.
I continue my art, cooperating with local, regional and international art centers and galleries.
I have very good friends all over the world and love them and don't mind to enlarge the circle of my friendship.
I am married, have two daughters.

PHILOSOPHY

My practice is a disagreement with current world power structures and an attempt to investigate causes, perform resistance and enact change. When I discovered that ‘beauty’ couldn’t change the world anymore I started to think about alternative approaches, strategies, aesthetics and positions developing in the field of Contemporary Art. In my work I seek to trouble hierarchies and I assume the possibility of horizontal, rhizomatic communities. I consider human beings the utmost culture in this world, with “godlike” idea, dreaming soul and inner emotional world.
In my work I am searching for a New Utopia of humanity, where love and creative souls thrive.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am new in CouchSurfing but I have big experience of hosting and being hosted in the framework of cross border cultural exchanges between many countries.

Interests

I love traveling and meeting new people, making friendship. I am an artist and i like creating soemthing. I like also collaboration cooking sometimes for special dinars and like not noisy parties, when oen can talk to the other. At hoem i organaize this kind of party three times per week. I like also social work and very often i am engaged in community based art projects.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw Persepolis in Iran and i got a strange feeling. I was with my friens and there were no tourists no body, in the midle of desert in Pars we were traveling in the past; 2500 years ago.
Another tiem, i was very amazed when I saw the Mont. Sant Micheal in France, the iseland-castel in Atlantic Oucian.
And one of the greatest experienses that I can't forgot was when i went to fishing in the oucian in Ireland, invited by Nial, a guy whom i didn't know and went to fishing. That was the first time in my life fishing in the sea, so far from the cost. Waves, wind, rocking in the boat and fishing. That was really unforgetable.
