About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore, learn, relate, understand, experience

ABOUT ME

I am courteous, easy going, think the wild is sacred, enjoy talking about politics, the environment, and how to better our society and world, into ultrarunning lately, and love food.

PHILOSOPHY

Arundhati Roy said it better than I ever could: "To love. To be loved. To never forget [my] own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around [me]. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget."

Interests

politics, philosophy, music, meditation, movies, games, books, laughing, vegetarian food, ecorestoration, cognitive science... most things really.

Music, Movies, and Books

Really all music. I especially like singer-songwriters - David Gray, Ani DiFranco, David Rovics. Political hip-hop gets me going too - Dead Prez, Immortal Technique.

I'm always in the middle of a few books, right now "The Tipping Point," "Confessions of an Economic Hitman," and "Exporing the World of Lucid Dreaming."

I like movies. If I had to name a favorite, maybe "American Beauty" or "Donnie Darko". I recently saw a Korean film called "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring" that is particularly beautiful.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Four Vipassana meditation courses, 17 14,000 foot mountains, and two years teaching English in Korea.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to learn. If you are passionate about it, I'll probably be into it too. I know a bit about politics, especially surrounding Israel/Palestine, I cook pretty good vegetarian food and I know a thing or two about gardening.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, China, Egypt, Israel, Japan, Laos, Mexico, Palestine, Thailand, United States, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In

South Korea, United States
