About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore, expand, and enjoy life!

ABOUT ME

I play guitar, sing, and write my own music. I moved to South Korea in August 2009 and it's been great! I came with an open mind but even that didn't prepare me for the culture shock that I got when I arrived. After saying that though, it seems like I am starting to enjoy it here more and more as the days go on. I came to South Korea by myself where the foreigner community was small compared to a big city. Most of the Koreans don't speak much English here, and downtown is small. BUT this is the "real deal Korea" experience that I think people are looking for who want to really study Korean culture. Being in this town, I have learned so much about the culture and the language that I don't think I would have had the chance, or cared to in big cities. Even though I do miss my friends and family tremendously, I would never take back my decision to come here. I am a firm believer in the notion that everything really does happen for a reason.

"So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more dangerous to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun."

PHILOSOPHY

All is well that ends well.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had two CouchSurfers come to visit while I have been in Gyeongju and they were great! I really enjoyed hanging out, and showing them around town. I would love to do it again!

Interests

Meeting new people is my main interest. After that playing guitar and singing when I am just hanging out at home after work is my favorite thing to do during the week. I also enjoy camping and everything that goes along with it (hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, white water rafting etc...) on the weekends. Playing a show here and there at the local coffee shop or at a bar is also great, and going out for a few drinks with good friends is sometimes all I need after a long week.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am really into DVD rooms in South Korea!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most amazing things that I have seen in my life-time are the temples of South Korea. There is a feeling that overwhelms you when you walk into a temple. Almost like a peace that was unattainable before but seems so simple once you are put into the right environment.

Teach, Learn, Share

I could tell you what is good to eat, and what to stay away from while you are in Korea
