About Me

I love to travel. I make films about travel, I make a web comic about travel (www.itchyfeetcomic.com), I'm writing a series of kids books about travel (www.themerrymariner.com) . . . I'm nuts about it.

I grew up in New Mexico, went to college in Orange County, California, then moved to Europe. I lived in France, Morocco, Italy and now I live in Berlin, married to an Italian and freelancing.

I'm not a partier. Rather than loud music and substance abuse, I prefer a good view, a good book, good food and good company with good conversation.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is a great way to travel. There's truly nothing better than seeing a place through a local's eyes. It beats any tour guide or book you could read. That's why I do it - to LIVE my travels, not just to be a passive tourist outsider. To meet people, to feel what it's like as a local.

Interests

Makin' movies, photography, guitar, learning languages, playing odd regional card games (I play Scopa and Joss!), drinking wine, eating things, hiking, biking, jogging, and having a laugh, drawing cartoons and doodling

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite movie this year was Mad Max. It kicked a thousand asses. I'm also currently being sucked in by the Netflix series Chef's Table...amazing cinematography. Highly recommended.

Just got a Kindle recently so I've been reading a LOT. I can recommend Hyperion, the Forever War and the Martian to anyone who's into sci-fi. For non-fiction check out Zealot: the Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth by Reza Aslan - a really fun read, a historian's perspective. Currently reading through all of Philip K. Dick's books, and I've got Terry Prachett on the list...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In the spring of 2005 I visited Switzerland to see a friend who was staying there for an exchange program. We took a train to Lucerne, in the south, but arrived after all the hostels and cheap hotels had closed. We wandered the streets until daylight - it was empty, quiet, and peaceful like nothing else. We watched day break over the lake, and for once, all of us were silent. I'll never forget it.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you want to do something, do it. I've made enough wrong turns to know that a wrong turn is just another path. Keep an open mind and a good attitude, and you will be surprised what happens.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Whatever needs doing! I cook, play some guitar, draw some cartoons, and speak a little Italian/French/German/Spanish!
