About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My current misson? To be the best person I can! Open-hearted, steadfast, strong... I have also this unrelenting desire to experience and know other people, places, languages, food, ways of life

ABOUT ME

I have been told that I am like the color of dark purple. It's neither the deepest nor most easygoing color, but it does has a strange mixture of both qualities.

I love to learn. Whenever I go somewhere new, I hope to soak in every sight I see. I know that every place has something to offer.

PHILOSOPHY

I hope to forever be open-hearted and to expereince life fully. Life is short. This makes it precious. I hope to embrace every day, and take every breathe on purpose.

Speaking of which, purpose is the most important thing. I don't want to go anywhere for nothing. I don't want to get to know people without my heart in the acquaintence. Heart is important.

This leads me to another thing. I do beleive what I believe. I will be open-minded toward your philosophies and I will not try to change your mind, so please show the same courtesy towards me (:

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Though I am currently do not have a stable home or couch to offer anyone, I am here whenever a drink or a coffee with a city host is needed.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My greatest experience of couch surfing wasn't exactly on a couch. In Panama, I stayed in a hut with a family that I will never forget. They were part of the Kuna community in the Darien Jungle (near the outskirts of the jungle, by Columbia). I felt so much a part of their family. Leaving was the most heart-wrenching thing, but the experience was one I'll never forget.

Interests

Languages! I would be a linguist if I thought the United Nations would hire me. Instead, I pursured my second love, psychology. I do enjoy studying and researching for psychology, but it's quite disturbing to try and break down people's minds. Another interest of mine is reading. I love to read(: Especially old books by long dead authors, like Dickens and Poe and Melville. There's something enticing about the timelessness of classic books.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music -- I enjoy so much music! I like R&B, hip hop, American folk, country, latino (cumbia, pop, reggaeton, salsa, ranchero...), indie, anti-folk, alternative, rock

Movies -- WAY too mny to list. I could watch movies all day if I the ability to sit still so long. Some of my favorites are Gladiator, Braveheart, The Patriot, Troy, and Terminator Salvation.

Books -- So many favorites! To Kill a Mockingbird, Jane Eyre, Persuasion, Pride and Prejudice, Moby Dick, Tale of Two Cities, Perfume

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing thing I did was something that didn't involve SEEing at all. I was 13 years old in an orphanage in Peru. I went to the back room where I met a little boy named Bartimaeus. He was blind, but he somehow knew there were strangers in the room and it scared him. When I picked him up, he struggled and cried until I gave in and let him do what I knew he needed to do. I let him touch me: all over my face and my neck and my hair. After that, he began to trust me and he never cried in my arms again. That is one of the most amazing things that ever happened to me.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share my knowledge of the Chicano culture, from which I was born. Chicanos are Mexicans that moved to the United States in pursuit of a better life. We have made our own culture here, as we have impacted and were impacted by the American culture.

I would like to learn any language and culture anyone can teach me, including sign language and the deaf culture.

Countries I’ve Visited

Mexico, Panama, Peru, Thailand, United States
