About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To ride on motorcycles to the Panama Canal

ABOUT ME

I think I got my urge to travel from my dad. He came to the US from Iran in the early 70s. He didn't speak any English and only brought a couple hundred dollars, a couple changes of clothing and a blanket (his mom made him).

Most people describe me as outgoing, friendly and fun, but that's a lot of pressure, so I'll just describe myself as reserved, shy and blah to keep expectations reasonable. I love to go for long motorcycle rides on twisty roads with good buddies, caffinate and discuss life or work on my computer at the many cafes in Seattle, and am trying hard not to look like a train wreck when I attempt to dance salsa.

PHILOSOPHY

"Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."
Howard Thurman

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

On a motorcycle adventure right now, so I won`t be hosting until I get back to San Francisco in a few months.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

During the summer of 2007 I CouchSurfed a few times on a three month cross USA motorcycle trip. I met some great people along the way, some of whom I'm still in contact with! I posted a full report of the adventure here: http://www.advrider.com/forums//showthread.php?t=247860

The funniest part of the adventure is here:

Music, Movies, and Books

I'll do one of each...whatever pops into my head first.

Movie: The Shawshank Redemption
Music: Arcade Fire - Funeral (Have you heard the "Where the Wild Things Are" version of "Wake Up"? Amazing!)
Books: Born to Run (listened to the book on tape while riding through the Copper Canyon)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I met Santa Claus in southern Oregon at a Taco Time. He drives a white Cadillac with a license plate that says "SANTA". I have a photo to prove it.

Teach, Learn, Share

I do not identify myself as Christian (or with any other religion), but listen to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's "Drum Major Instinct" speech (especially the last 7 minutes):
http://tinyurl.com/DrumMajorInstinct

In it he talks about this line from the bible:
"The greatest among you shall be your servant"
Matthew 23:11

For something topical...
"The most expensive thing is providing low quality health care to the poor people of rich countries."
Paul Farmer, 2009
