About Me

CURRENT MISSION:
Lighting design
ABOUT ME:
Easy going person

I am a multidisciplinary designer recently back to Italy after a six months experience in Uganda, where I worked in a local interior design studio (2013). This experience not only allowed me to improve my English skills, but it also was a challenging opportunity to adapt my work to a reality characterized by different materials.
After obtaining in 2007 a Bachelor of Industrial Design at the ISIA Roma Design, (laurea in Disegno Industriale), with a thesis about medical design, I worked as stage and costume designer for the Petrolini theatre of Rome and for a small video production. Even though I enjoyed my work experience, I preferred to continue my formation at the Polytechnic University of Turin, where the second year lessons are held in English and many international students join the course, making it more multicultural and interesting. I graduated in Eco-design (laurea magistrale in Design del Prodotto Ecocompatibile) in 2012 with a thesis about lighting urban requalification through the user-centered design approach (UCDA). The UCDA differs from other product design philosophies, since it tries to develop the product around the users’ needs, desires and possibilities, rather than forcing them to change behavior in order to accommodate the product/service. Following such participatory approach, I developed the lighting project involving many stakeholders (employees, partners, customers, citizens and final users) using questionnaires, interviews and perceptive maps. Another useful design method I could learn during my studies is the Systemic Approach, which swaps from the linear production system to a cyclical one, where the outputs of a certain process become the inputs of another one. This approach drives the designers to think out of the box, developing an interconnected system that resembles a natural mechanism. Thanks to this new paradigm I started to design products and services keeping in mind their whole life cycle and their environmental impacts on the medium and long terms.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

One of the most interesting way to amplify your knowledge is to travel and discover place and cultures which will make you a more wise and respectful human being.
I like travel, meet people, taste food and visit natural places, museums, see art exhibition like everyone but I prefer discover how people really live in their daily environment far from the fancy-boring hotels or typical tourist places.
For some, travel is a sweet plan for retirement on a boat, a housebus, with a backpack or by train. I haven’t quite decided yet and might have to run with all of those travel plans in my golden years.
For me travel has been an all-consuming passion, like a love affair ;)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Rafting in the Nile, in Jinja, Uganda!

Teach, Learn, Share

I maturated an excellent ability in exposition and presentations of complex projects, moreover I acquired the ability to relate with different professional figures (engineers, architects, artisans).
In the design fields, brainstorming is the place where ideas born, open mind to means amplify the creative potential of everyone. Working in a team on a single project requires tolerance and organizational capacity to be able to effectively coordinate each one work and views to reach a common goal, not an easy task that allowed me to develop decisional capacity avoid individualism.
