About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Renovating a thrashed 1890s Victorian. DIY-tastic!
ABOUT ME
I am a pragmatic idealist, generous, impatient, driven, and endlessly curious. I like to build things and take them apart in order to understand them. I can be quiet and shy at first, but once I open up there isn't much I won't say! I believe in the value of silliness and play. Sometimes I take myself too seriously. I am fascinated by new people and places, and I want more of them in my life.
PHILOSOPHY
I am interested in what works. First, accept what is real, then build your dreams around it.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I host, and I attend local CS events when I can.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have crashed on couches in Boston, Budapest, Szeged, Brasov, Bremen and New York City. Most of the time I was staying with friends of friends, but a few times I ended up staying with people I met on the street, and those were the most amazing experiences. Suddenly I was outside of the fear and distrust of strangers that I have known all my life. It is an amazing feeling.
Interests
I am a dancer (many kinds, but trained in ballet), a whitewater rafting guide, a mechanical engineer, and an excellent pastry chef. I love to try extravagant new recipes just to see what happens. I am also a bit crafty, doing a fair amount of knitting and sewing. I am involved in the sustainability movement, around energy efficiency and sustainable design.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: REALLY depends on my mood.
Movies: Everything from Baron Munchhausen to Willow to Fight Club to American Beauty to Shortbus to...I never go to the theater anymore, but I do have Netflix.
I'm a fantasy and sci-fi reader, but I'm also fascinated by sociology/poli-sci/education. Currently reading Anathem and American Taliban.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach people to raft whitewater, sew their own clothes, knit, bake a pie, and do calculus.
