Why I’m on Couchsurfing

outside of trips that were motivated by visiting out of town relatives, my family didn't travel much when i was growing up. we made yearly trips to indiana, and once drove from wisconsin all the way to texas, but my travel bug wasn't quenched.

my first trip out of the country was in in july 2011, when i volunteered for 2 weeks with the jamaican association for the deaf.

a year and a few odd months later, hours after graduating from college, i hopped on a plane with my gal pal, lindsay, and embarked on 10 days of hosteling through barcelona, basque region, switzerland, florence, and rome.

more recently, i've spent a week in seattle, WA, and had the opportunity to camp in iceland, the north shore of MN, and isle royale national park. i've also hiked the swiss alps!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

i spent two weeks in kingston, jamaica, volunteering with their association for the deaf in july of 2011. i had originally thought this experience would be similar to a study abroad program, but i was the only foreign student helping out at that time. i was placed with a host family in residential Kingston and traveled alone on several occasions. being that it was my first trip out of the country, i gained self-assurance and a taste for adventure. more here: http://goodgolly-itsmolly.blogspot.com/2011/07/jamaica-day-5.html
