ABOUT ME

I'm finishing up my bachelor's degree at a small college in Iowa, USA. I'm overly enthusiastic about mundane things and local politics.

Interests

Local politics, community engagement, homelessness initiatives.

I spent this past summer researching an herbicide resistant superweed in Iowa. If you want to talk agriculture or food systems, I can go for hours. Sustainable agriculture and communities are incredibly important to me.

While not particularly religious at this point in my life, I find religion to be fascinating, especially in how it manifests differently in different cultures. I've studied religion academically for the past eight years, but I know that I will never be able to learn enough about it.

I also love dabbling in theatre and music. I'm not particularly great at either, but I get a kick out of performing with others!

Music, Movies, and Books

As a student, I don't have much time for free reading. Fortunately, I find my religion and political science textbooks incredibly rewarding. For casual reading, I just finished The Art of Fielding, and it reminded me that I need to make more time to get lost in books.

Music: Give me a live big band or jazz combo and you'll know what my version of paradise is. I also love me some Michael Jackson, Chao, and trashy pop music.

I sang Happy Birthday to Barack Obama in the White House...twice.

Allergen friendly cooking skills and dietary planning - my family and I all share an odd assortment of food sensitivities, so I can work around just about anything. I'd love to cook for you!
