Hey, I'm Mona! I come from a German family and grew up on a tiny island in the Atlantic Ocean called La Palma, part of the Canary Islands, in Spain.

I am a curious, active, and cheerful young woman, passionate about travel and learning. I deeply care about social injustices, protecting our beautiful planet, and animal rights. I like to see the positive side of everything and seek to have a positive impact wherever I go.

After finishing high school in the middle of the pandemic in 2020, I took a gap year and managed to get accepted into my dream university, Minerva University (based in San Francisco), which allows me to travel full time in an international community while pursuing my bachelor's degree in Social Sciences.

I am a total nature kid and I love adventures, so I'd love to get to know you by hiking a mountain together or getting lost in the secret corners of a city. I would also really enjoy cooking together while having a chill chat or a fun board game night.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I believe that traveling isn't about driving from one tourist attraction to the other, taking the best Instagram pictures, and having a good story to tell on return. The real magic - and growth - happens when a trip throws me out of my comfort zone, I get to meet and connect with people and expand my understanding of the world. By joining Couchsurfing, I hope to experience the places I visit, the people there, and their culture in the rawest and most authentic way possible.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like books and movies that make me think.

My taste in music is simply chaotic: If I put my playlists on random it will probably jump from classical and slow piano songs straight to hard rock, pop, or some good old Spanish reguetón.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I learned about the environmental, human, and ethical costs of our modern fashion industry, I didn't want to continue to support it. I learned about second-hand shopping opportunities and soon started to design and make my own clothes. I learned how to sew professionally-looking fashion items from scratch and to adapt thrifted items to better fit my style. Currently, I design and make tops, pants, skirts, and even dresses by myself, so I don't depend on unethical industries to express myself through my style.
