About Me

"Well..Taking the question from another point of view; the description of a perfect day for me is waking up in a town as a total stranger, with the noise of some chats in a language I have never heard before."

The romantic and à la beat phrase above is what I had scribbled down back in 2007 while signing up for CS. And it is still as true as can be. However, I guess years and events have shown their effect on me; and I feel I've evolved into a more settler persona who longs to take roots (but still loves to travel as much as ever). I love to live my life unadorned, graceful and humble. On another aspect, I feel both very eclectic and free-spirit (albeit the vagueness of the term) but also traditional, well, in my way..

PHILOSOPHY

"There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I show people that I like them by cooking for them. You show me that you love me by cleaning up after me.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It was just prior to an interrail trip that I discovered couchsurfing. Since then, I have surfed, hosted and met many people in İstanbul or in Paris or in Berlin or in Vienna and so on, here and there.. :)
and it was all great.

Interests

What interests me at a very moment can vary greatly. In general, I am a conversationalist who takes pleasure in stimulating conversations. I enjoy cosy and quiet times at home as well as a raucous party on a blast night. I'm shy. I'm loud. Been practicing yoga for a while now, I like cooking, singing, playing and listening to music as much as anyone else here. oh..and I love cycling!
I am interested in everything that is happening in summers and by the sea.

Music, Movies, and Books

Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Led Zeppelin, Nina Simone, Jacques Brel, Johnny Cash, Charles Aznavour, The Knife and many more.. I specifically like urban subcultural musical genres that grew out of particular circumstances and are strongly related to "reality" and the very human nature; such as rebetiko, blues, klezmer, flamenco, country, fado, balkan brass and tango. These are the kinds of music that I "listen to". There are also times I open spotify and put some jazz, chillout, lounge, electronic or indie folk to soothe away soreness of my urban evenings and relax. You can check out my last.fm profile which has been keeping record of my musical taste for some years. http://www.last.fm/user/bmungan?setlang=en

As for movies..Fellini, Almodovar, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Michael Haneke, Fatih Akin, Richard Linklater and Woody Allen are some that I like. I don't single out any genre but enjoy specifically independent pictures. I immensely admire and am deeply inspired by Juliette Binoche and her exquisite beauty. A quick list of movies I could think of is..Bleu, Mar Adentro, La Finestra di Fronte, Hable con Ella, Ultimo Tango a Parigi, Los Amantes del Circulo Polar, La Science des Reves, Amelie, Jeux d'enfants, Va Vis et Deviens, Waking Life, Annie Hall, Amores Perros, Before Sunset, Closer, Casablanca, Im Juli, Once.

To be honest, I can't say I read as much as I desire. Other than fiction and poetry, I love reading articles on various topics. Berlin Stories by Christopher Isherwoord, Kürk Mantolu Madonna by Sabahattin Ali, Bastard of Istanbul by Elif Safak are some.. and Fromm's books on Freud. Recently, I have been reading quite a bit of scientific work on environmental sustainability and ecology due to my master studies. oh..and yeah..I spend shit loads of time reading wikipedia on an extremely eclectic bunch of topics.
